Arco is an interesting restaurant, and Indian one that seems to be a bit out of place in this part of Lisbon. The menu has a selection of indian dishes with a poruguese twist on them, for example some of them being based on pork instead of lamb meat. My meal was certainly tasty and a good portion of food... We went here on recommendation from the Rough Guide and were pleased with the choice. We haven't been to Goa but the food was believably Indian-influenced-by-Portugal and very tasty with it. The Indian sausage curry was great. Informal but friendly service. Not expensive (mains 9 Euro).

We had a wonderful meal here in July 2016. Food was very tasty and service friendly and helpful. Especially enjoyed the desert, babinka. Typical Goan desert and reminiscent of previous holiday in Goa.

This restaurant was right next to our hotel! For a honeymooning couple from India, this was a god send. We just stumbled into this restaurant whenever we wanted a taste of home! Goan fish curry and samosas (or chamusas as the Portuguese call it) were simply amazing! The friendly owner with mixed Goan and Portuguese heritage made the Lisbon/ food... More

Fine if you're ordering something simple like champagne or a beer. They're just overrun with the touristas and doing the best they can in the flow. They're probably great if you catch them at the right moment. I did not.

We popped in here on spec as we happened to be in the neighbourhood at lunchtime. The service was efficient and courteous. While we were waiting for our main courses we were brought fresh, warm Naan bread with a selection of Portuguese and Goan spreads. The main courses — chicken curry with rice — were tasty and authentic. It's not... More

I recognise that any restaurant can vary in it's performance & that one's mood will influence appreciation but for some reason I remember this as the best Indian meal out I've ever had. This is odd for me as I'm rarely given to such superlatives. The family liked it too but think my praise is exaggerated but I still can't... More

We had lunch there because it was recommended by a friend of mine living in Lisbon, otherwise we would never go (an Indian restaurant just in front of the entrance of the castle could sound like a perfect tourist trap) and it was very good. We were the only one in the restaurant. It looks like a family business and... More

Had dinner here. Ordered a couple curries and nan. The dip that came with the nan was really delicious. Small, cozy atmosphere. Enjoyed everything. Not very expensive, either.

Staying in Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria

Neighbourhood Profile
Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria
Explore narrow streets and alleyways, small cafes and, of course, the internationally acclaimed Fado music. The earth-shattering Great Earthquake of 1755 destroyed most of the city but the contiguous neighborhoods of Mouraria, Castelo and Alfama remained standing to this day. These neighborhoods represent Lisbon at its historical best. The cool breeze of the Tagus river will take you up the hills to the sound of Fado, where you'll discover the best "tascas," eat delicious fresh fish and drink great wines. Discover hidden viewpoints and ancient traces of other civilizational ruins in the heart of the Portuguese capital. These are centuries-old neighborhoods that will welcome you to the very best of old Lisbon culture.
