Duarte is the husband, Marina is the wife and the Alfama neighborhood of old Lisbon is the place...family-owned and run well, great food, organic and wholesome, lots of wine and delicious atmosphere. THEN, the cook and maitre D take off their aprons and sing FADO...so much fun, talent, pizzazz and soul! While I could do without a lot of the... More

Found this place on TripAdvisor and decided to give it go!! On its ratings looked like a great night out in Alfama..But was the opposite. We arrived at 7:30 pm The food choice started with a selection smoked meats, cheese and bread all very tasty, then a choice of either seafood cataplana or pork and clams for two only, so... More

The best answer to this comment is the following comment :) Thank you Mr. Badgerbobby45 :) As for this gentleman himself: there is only an intention here to injure him when he says "..but I am Portuguese and perhaps for that reason more critical" ora this gentleman lives in South Africa for many years, he told me himself, of Fado... We choose this restaurant in order to experience a dinner with Fado and we were very happy at the end. The atmosphere is really warm, you fell like at home! The owner and waitress at the end of the dinner start playing and singing Fado, it was really nice! The dinner is at fixed price including a starter to share,... More

A small, family restaurant, food very good, especially the seafood. The owners, delightful couple and daughter, cook themselves, then give a concert of fado. Atmosphere great, they treat guests like family. Reservation required and a deposit. price of the meal and concert all inclusive 45 euro / person. Well worth it! Amazing experience remain long in the memory.

Wonderful evening with traditional Portuguese food and Fado music. At the current time, its 45 euro flat fee, fairly expensive for Lisbon but totally worth it for such a warm atmosphere and cultural evening. The hosts are lovely people and very talented! Highly recommend it!

Simply put, Sr Fado is an unparalleled experience of Portuguese culture. Duarte and family make you immediately feel at home in their cozy space. Unlike some of the other Fado hawkers accosting tourists on the streets of Alfama, Sr Fado is at capacity due to its pristine and well-deserved reputation. The food was delightful; the seafood cataplana was fresh and... More

We celebrated New Year's Eve here and it was a great way to start the New Year! Ana Marina and Duarte make you feel like you are in their home, they take care of everything, with serving traditional dishes then playing, singing and explaining "Fado" as they entertain you! So intimate, only seats 24 so you must book! A great experience... More

If you like to listen to fado, then you should come. It is a bit touristy, but you will enjoy it neverthless. We did.

On off the least pretentious of Lisbon's Fado restaurants is also one of its finest. Hosts Duarte Santos and Ana Marina treat guests as family and the homely ambiance is warming and inviting. The homemade gastronomy is noted for its textures and flavours and generous portions, with the seafood cataplana (stew) a much-lauded feast. The menu is limited, but here it's all about the quality of the food. As for the entertainment, this is local fado at its most authentic -- the singers and musicians have known each other for years, and the performance is heartfelt and genuine. Quite often, diners are invited to join in which makes the evening truly memorable.

Staying in Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria

Neighbourhood Profile
Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria
Explore narrow streets and alleyways, small cafes and, of course, the internationally acclaimed Fado music. The earth-shattering Great Earthquake of 1755 destroyed most of the city but the contiguous neighborhoods of Mouraria, Castelo and Alfama remained standing to this day. These neighborhoods represent Lisbon at its historical best. The cool breeze of the Tagus river will take you up the hills to the sound of Fado, where you'll discover the best "tascas," eat delicious fresh fish and drink great wines. Discover hidden viewpoints and ancient traces of other civilizational ruins in the heart of the Portuguese capital. These are centuries-old neighborhoods that will welcome you to the very best of old Lisbon culture.
