Excellent quality, owner very nice and polite. Aboundant dishes, the fish mix for one could be even for two and the fish was extremely fresh. Even the starters are big and very good. The caldo verde was one of the best I had during the stay

Found this place by chance after visiting the castle. We had the grilled sardines. They were very well cooked & delicious. Staff very friendly. Would go back again. They are not open in the evenings.

We had absolutely no idea about this restaurant as we were wandering around Lisbon and were hungry for lunch. We went down some stairs in between some graffiti 'decorated' office buildings and there were 4 tables outside a little restaurant. The special of the day was grilled octopus and the chef was grilling it on the wood fire inside the... More

I'm back to NYC and still raving and telling everyone about the sardines at Floresta Das Escadinhas! We went for lunch last week while vacationing in Lisbon. It's a small and very cute restaurant. Like a "mom and pop" place where the fish , seafood and meat are cooked in charcoal or wood. I love all type of fish and... More

Went to this place on my first day in Lisbon, service is friendly and attentive. Has the feel of a family eatery popular with locals. Had the grilled squid with boiled potatoes, it was dressed in garlic and olive oil, so simple but was excellent. I had the caramel mousse for desert which was delicious, texture and consistency was spot... More

Simple and small local place, off the beaten track and away from the tourist traps. Food here is simple, but excellent quality for what it is. It is a busy lunchtime place for locals, but the welcome was friendly and genuine. The wines are really good and excellent value as well.

Restaurant Forest of Escadinhas is located in a former church in the street of Santa Justa. Located in the downtown historic district, serves as a passage for those who rises and falls to the Castelo de São Jorge. This restaurant is since 1993 to serve its customers its specialties of fish and meat on coal. In a simple and familiar environment has the capacity to 40 seats and serves traditional Portuguese food. Genuine flavors, our dishes are mainly of fresh fish and very healthy. We recommend that you try our mixed fish and meat. After a nice meal is invited to experience some of our fantastic homemade desserts, made to surprise him. The restaurant offers a very characteristic terrace in stairways and is the perfect place for a romantic meal for two or for lunch with friends. Best sardines in Lisbon. We have meat and fresh fish grilled in charcoal (Steak, ribs, fresh sausages, sardines, cod fish, grilled squid...)

Staying in Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores

Neighbourhood Profile
Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!
