The place is an ancient palace and the inside decoration is charming I always stop here to eat a few snacks : soup, delicatessen, cheese with a juice or water. There are two spots to eat , the taverna and the restaurant. Both cheap options !

• Dirty glasses with lipstick • The salmon was burned • Clearly microwaved mashed potatoes and green leaves • So so service. A smile wouldn't hurt

Casa do Alentejo is situated in an magnificent old building and consists of many rooms, some of which can evidently be rented for private occasions. It also has a menu of typical dishes from the Alentejo region. As it seems to be a very popular place, it is a good idea to book a table in advance or arrive relatively... More

I went to this place with my my friends on Thursday. We took an empty table and were sat there for 40 minutes and nobody came to take our order. We went to ask for a menu, then we asked twice if we could order but a waiter served two other tables with people who arrived 20 minutes after us.... More

Located in an old Moorish building the rooms are fascinating. The food is regional, and served rustic but tasty. However there were just two waiters for a large number of tables, and they seemed random in who got served when and how long orders took etc. Distraction mid-action seemed frequent. Altogether disappointing - but worth a visit for the rooms... More

This restaurant is located in a former royal palace built in the 17th century. The walls of every room are covered in antique azulejos and are not to be missed. The cuisine is from the Alentejo, so meat is the specialty although grilled fish is also available. We had a lamb rack stew which hubby says was excellent. My grilled... More

What an astonishing room! It's like eating in Versailles palace; the murals are magnificent, and the building just feels like it oozes history. Service was good, and the food was good; very good value, although the veg was a bit overcooked.

“Alentejo” is part of center/ south Portugal and had a strong influence of other people like the moors and/or arabs and originated a beautiful neomourish architecture. And we find this palace in the Lisbon old town, belonging to all Alentejanos (Alentejo people) aiming to great an “Alentejo Colony” in Lisbon in 1912. In fact, in Lisbon you have a neighborhood... First of all you should have lunch here for the way the place looks. The food was delicious (they have a special for each day - It's well worth going there on Wednesday for the Turkey with chestnuts). Most of all I was surprised by the prices. For the way it looks you might think every dish is €20+, but... More

Staying in Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores

Neighbourhood Profile
Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!
