32 covers, 1 man = disaster. Incredibly slow service. The whole experience was more a comedy act than a focus on food or service. Food pre-prepped and tepid, other than the tuna which was ok. The guy was more busy chatting to guests in a...whirlwind of delirium and ego other than focusing on a quality restaurant experience. Avoid.More

We had the best dinner on our stay on Sao Miguel. The owner/ waiter/ greeter/ chef is very cordial and outgoing. He has a great passion for what he is doing and has achieved. I had the forkbeard fish with spinach in filo pastry (which...I highly recommend and also called the queen of the house by the owner/ chef). My wife had the pork tenderloin which was also very good. The meals were paired by a white wine recommended by him as well. Service is as you may expect slow and not fancy since the owner has to do everything himself. The only blemish was that I ruined my shorts due to sterilisation of the chair with bleachMore

Well, Once you have understood the azorean possibilities when it comes to food you can easily understand why Boca de Cena is outstanding cusine. Ricardo is such a pleasant chef and the food…. It’s something you will remember in uour hollyday memories. The crispy octopus…....The best octopus ever. And the grilled cheese…. Sound weird,, but as much as you would like to say “it’s just cheese” well, yes, but good, tasty, like in your porn food dream.More

Exceptional food with a sophisticated touch. The ambient of the restaurant is cozy and simple. The restaurant only has a woman in the kitchen and a man serving all the food. Very friendly and extremely effective! A place to return in the future.

I haven't written a restaurant review in years but tonight, I felt that I ought to. Just finished my dinner at Boca de Cena and, what can I say? Simply superb. We shared the honey tuna and the crispy octopus. The chef patron promised I...would be eating the best octopus of my life, and there was no exaggeration there. Cannot recommend this place enough. My only regret is that I discovered it on my last night in Sao Miguel!More

Every dish that we’ve tried was spectacular - braised tuna steaks, fish in pastry with spinach, octopus. The gentleman who runs the restaurant is a one man band - he cooks and serves but does it very well. We were seated exactly at the time...we booked and food came quickly despite restaurant being full. Overall a great experience. Highly recommended!More

Like so many before us (read the 1* reviews), our evening was also upended as this restaurant was closed despite us having called to make a reservation the night before. It takes a certain level of disrespect to not even bother informing customers who have...made an effort to reserve that you’re not going to open.More

Anywhere but the Middle Atlantic, Chef Ricardo would have multiple stars. Very seriously. His creations at Boca de Cena are art, in its purest form. The restaurant is austere, even minimalist, until your eyes and ears adjust to the realization that you have stepped into...something special, romantic in its uniqueness. The table in the back, catty-corner to the door, offers couch seating at 90 degrees for intimate conversation. You are greeted and seated by Chef Ricardo. It is immediately apparent that he is 110% committed to his creation. He has the innate aesthetic sense of a culinary artist, matched by the energy and enthusiasm that defines those who succeed at the highest level. For an unforgettable dining experience, ask him to organize a dinner for you. It will be exquisite ... and very reasonably priced. We just enjoyed an exceptional four course dinner for 2, with an excellent accompanying wine, and left under 100 Euro including tip. I can't touch that in Boston, and have had Michelin 2-star dinners on the continent that were not as good and set me back much more. Likely, being among the first to return after the pandemic helped make our experience unique and especially personal, as we enjoyed the opportunity and time to discuss Chef Ricardo's experiences and inspirations. From the other reviews, however, this is the level of excellence you can expect in busier times as well. As a scientist at a well known Boston university, I rarely have time to write reviews. But I know exceptional talent when I see it. You'll find it at Boca de Cena.More

This is just a wow experience! It has been a long time since we enjoyed such a culinary experience. Ricardo makes you feel welcome from the first second. It’s just incredible how he manages to do everything on his own. If you love a dry...wine, ask for the Beyra white wine. For food, we had the black pork tenderloin and filet mignon lovely presented with vegetables, potatoes and a port wine sauce. Price/quality-wise, it’s perfect. While we were still eating, we made a new reservation at Boca de Cena for our last night at Ponta Delgada!More
