After a busy day and no lunch, I had a craving for a burger, and as I travelled from Ferragudo to Praia Da Vau at 21.45 on a Tuesday evening, my first thought was burger ranch in Portimao, but then I remembered I’d seen a...burger bar close to Praia Da Rocha called BB so as I’d never been I thought I’d give it a try.
OK, so I’m a bit tired, and hungry, it was busy outside, I elected to come inside, I had trouble downloading menu, but waiter brought out hard copy so I could choose food, no drinks menu.
I asked about wine and agreed that I’d have 1/2 bottle of tinto, waiter eventually brought a bottle of local wine, I should have protested but just agreed to have the bottle and asked waiter for the cork so I could take it home.
I chose to add onion rings to my order and they came as a starter, maybe that’s what happens, they were €4.50 for 6 soggy processed deep fried tasteless onion rings with a bland garlic dip, my Sao Jorge burger arrived which was nicely presented with egg, cheese and onions, skin on fries smothered with rosemary and 1/2 were cold, all looked 2 days old, but I’m now past the point of no return, burger was tasty, wine was very acidic, so heartburn after 1/2 a glass.
Overall the bill was €30.40, ok the wine was €17.70 but I thought that it was not great value for money.
Yes lots of decent reviews, yes, I was tired and just needed a burger, and yes it was ok, but frankly I felt that there are better burgers in non specialist burger restaurants in Portimao and Praia Da Rocha, and yes I could and should have sorted the mistake with the wine out, but as I now wrestle with heartburn I recognise that my first experience will be my last.More
