My hotel and tour guide both recommended this restaurant. The food was fresh and delicious. The wine good and reasonable. Service was stellar. No long wait for anything! Prices reasonable. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Smallest cataplana you've ever seen, containing 3 prawns and half a ton of potatoes. €45?? Never again.

Lovely small, traditional and cosy restaurant. Lots of locals which for us is conditional to enjoy new regions. Very friendly yet discrete staff. We both had grilled fishes, done to perfection. And with moderate pricing it made our experience truly delightful.

So, you’re on your way to Algarve and you know that if everything goes well it will take you 2h30 to reach your destination from Lisbon. But you decide to leave by 12pm and still would like to have lunch there. You call to Taberna...de Maré explain the situation and they answer: “ok Madam just let me know when you’re nearby! We’ll wait for you” 😁 As you arrive it’s almost full house and you try to see the person you spoke on the phone with, but no luck. You choose your lunch: clams and mackerel for starters (cavala alimada), fried sardines filets and baby squids with Açorda ( I don’t even know if there’s a word in English to call it) paired with a white barrancolongo and then Zeca Pinhota comes to greet you and tells you he wondered were you were by know, happy that you made it and advises you to pick up a slice of bread, deepen it in the sauce, put the mackerel on top and eat. This was the first time I was at Taberna da Maré, a house that has been running for decades, and a famous one, that I read somewhere used to be a fisherman’s cabin. It’s funny how in a highly touristic area you can still feel welcomed and as you belong there. This year was a hard one on turism and specially in the Algarve Region. But it was also the year when we as Portuguese could discover and enjoy the wonders everyone is fascinated by. I never travelled to Algarve as much as I did this year and I don’t regret it. And this why in Portugal you don’t go out just to feed yourself, you eat out nice food, in a nice environment, start conversations with strangers and the sense of being full is way bigger that the one you feel in your belly. Cheers to that 🥂More

My husband’s family and I had a wonderful dinner here. The fish was delicious, the staff was wonderful, and the ambience was buzzing notwithstanding social distancing. I admired the staff’s polo shirt, and sure enough the owner retrieved an extra one for me. How lovely!...A must when visiting the Algarve.More

Genuine traditional Algarve food, an old fishermen's restaurant that has been able to remain faithful to the best of Algarve cuisine. It is increasingly difficult to find places like this. Generally the suggestions that are made to us are excellent, to visit!

From the owner greeting us with a handshake to the impeccable service from one of the staff (João), this place offers some of the best seafood dishes around. Our server recommended us some of the best local Portuguese cuisine and did not disappoint. The quality...of food and quantity... bang for buck is amazing. Great atmosphere and everything you would want for a local traditional Portuguese restaurant.More

We took cataplana sea food. The taste was there but there was a lot of...... PORK inside. The waiter had told us they would put a little bit of pork to give taste. But normally it should be a little bit of it. We had...more pork than seafood. We have to be honest, the food was good and really tasty. But we were angry about the quantity of pork and we wee hungry. The boss came and we complained. He asked us if we want something more to eat for free. We said we won't because we wanted cataplana! So finally he accepted to divide the price of cataplana by 2. The total price was 37.50 euro. That was honest from him and we appreciate that. So go there and enjoy it but paid attention if you take cataplana!!!More

We came here on a recommendation from the reception of our hotel, the place was busier than the other restaurants locally and so we thought this could only be a good thing! The initial service was very good, we were sat down very quickly and...shown a selection of fish which was very helpful! Our waitress however was not so good, this is probably down the fact that our Portuguese was not very good and her English was about the same so I can’t fault her there. The restaurant itself is beautiful, set down a small alley way leading into a larger square, the restaurant looked very rustic, homely and welcoming. The atmosphere was friendly and with the low lights it made for a great setting for an evening meal. Unfortunately the restaurant was out of cod and so I could not go with my first choice. Instead I ordered the grilled octopus which I must say was the worst octopus I’ve had after travelling both Spain and Portugal, it was tough, rubbery and some bits were so inedible they ended up back on my plate. My partner went for the tuna steak and by all accounts it was beautifully cooked, soft and with great flavour. The wine selection was good, something we’ve got used to in Portimao. I would definitely recommend this restaurant, but would not recommend the octopus.More

One hour waiting sitting in the table before being served. Nasty squids. Don't accept mastercard (but they don't know)
