We went past House of Isabel one evening and it looked really nice but it was closing, so we went back one afternoon. The interior of the cafe is really pretty and old school & there are a wide variety of traditional pastries and bakes...on display. There are a few tables indoors & most were taken. There were also a few tables out in front of the shop. Greeted one of the staff & she just ignored me but we were served by a younger member of staff. Took a while to decide what to have as it all looked really nice. We finally ordered a few cakes and sat outside where pre-payment was required. Had ordered a decaf coffee but not sure whether it was decaf in the end as didn't sleep very well that evening! When the coffee came, I handed back the sachets of sugar as I didn't need them & I noticed there was a torn off section of a packet on the saucer so they might not have cleaned the saucer before serving the coffee on it to me, which is very poor. A couple of the desserts had the egg strands in which were interesting. One was in a rice paper wrap & the other was in a cake with nuts (almond or walnut?). We also had a chocolate dessert with biscuity bits in and another tart which had a soft, mushy filling. We liked everything and got a pack of carob and almond cookies to take away as well. These were a bit hard & not as crisp as we thought it would be. There also wasn't as much almonds in them as we would like. Overall, it's a nice place to indulge in your sweet tooth and feel like you're stepping back in time.More
What a lovely little place! Came across it quite by accident and was lured in by the beautiful floor tiles.... I will seriously be making sure I go back - the pastries are beyond words amazing!! Lovely coffee too, in beautiful surroundings, it's very cute...and olde worlde - honestly, if you're in the area, do yourself a favour - and definitely try the Portuguese tarts here... they are the best I've ever tasted... the pastry is so thin, I have no idea how they even manage to put the tarts together. Seriously heavenly <3More
Beautiful building. Poor service. Under staffed and the one person working seemed to prefer local clientele to foreign visitors. Not a warm welcome to Portimao.
Do not miss a visit at this cozy and traditional place. Beautiful original building. Amazing flavors and great coffee. Kind and English speaking staff.
If you want to treat yourself with a good cup of coffee or tea and some simply amazing cakes or pastries, this is where you need to go! The place looks like an old school tea house and has all that charm. The cakes are...some of the very best you'll ever eat in your lifetime and you should realise that you will regret your life choices for ever if you decide not to go here while in Portimao. Service is amazing aswell and we came here 3 times in 2 days (but it was closed on our third day, Wednesday) and i could go here a thousand times more! Awesome litte find, go here and enjoy life :)More
This is my third visit. They have amazing cakes and sweets. I cannot decide on my favourite.. everything is mouthwatering!! ♡♡♡♡♡
What a bakery superb cakes and pastries and all at exceptionally good prices. Best place to eat cake in Portimão. You need to visit
Fantastic cakes and coffee. We got a bit carried away as everything was jus just so nice. The staff were very friendly too. Great find
Home made cakes at their best, originally set up by people who had been selling cakes from their garage. When the garage became too busy they set up this place where the cake and coffee and just being able to sit down and relax and...watch the world go by is one of the must do's IMO.More
I have been here twice already and the caces they serve ara amazing. I highly recommend it and i myself will be paying a visit again and rather soon.
A visit to A Casa da Isabel is a given every year whenever we go to Algarve. Region pastry and the cookies are top.
Brilliant Quaint old typical nineteen 30/40s decor. Myself and my wife popped in for a coffee but could not resist the cakes that were made on the premises. Reasonable prices and really enjoyed what we had. Definitely worth a visit.
The setting of the place is small, cute and cosy and makes you feel like you've travelled back in time. Wide variety of cakes and sweets that go perfectly with a cup of coffee. The service is good and explained what each cake was in...good English. The price range was between €1 - €5 and was well worth the price. It's not difficult to find the place but roadside parking around the area is a bit of an issue. Overall, a great place.More
If you are into sweet treats, and willing to taste what Portugal has to offer, you will find here the products from a long culinary tradition. It is said that the nuns from the convents had easy access to sugar and eggs, and that resulted...in a profusion of cake and sweet recipes that shape what is a Portuguese obsession. Nothing could be closer to sweets heaven than this place. An old looking house, it seems that time has stopped somewhere at the beginning of the 20th century. From "toucinho do céu" (literally "bacon from heaven" to "bolo real de aljezur" you will find a myriad of sweets and cakes to keep you salivating for days. A place you must try. Definitely 5 stars.More
