We knew this restaurant served roasted beef on Sundays but we didn’t make a reservation in advance so we decided to walk there anyway to see if we could get in. We got there at 12:30 and luckily the had a table for us - which did have a reserved sign on it for later. They only have a choice of roasts for their menu on Sunday - of beef, ham, pork or chicken for $10 Euros served with Yorkshire pudding, gravy, roasted potatoes and vegetables. We both ordered beef and if was tender and tasty and the gravy and Yorkshire pudding were excellent.

British Pub Sunday Lunch

This place is highly regarded by everyone I've talked to and for Sunday lunch it lived up to it's reputation. We did not reserve, so we were lucky the boss gave us a table. There is no menu...choice of beef, pork, lamb or chicken. Your plate will be roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, broccoli, cauliflower, peas, carrots and cabbage along with your meat choice. You just cannot beat it! If you're going to be in Albufeira on a Sunday I recommend you try this.

We have been waiting for this restaurant to reopen following their winter break. We went there precovid times, and wondered if it would be as good as it used to be. It did not disappoint! We shared breaded prawns starter, and both had steak and Guinness pie with mash and vegetables. The portions are large but are good value for the cost €13 each for pie and €9 for the prawns. The staff are friendly and helpful. The food is cooked fresh so your order takes a while. It's not too big counter 36 sears. It's as busy as ever and would need to book in advance.

Just dined here on our last night before coming home. Got recommended to us by a gentleman in the hotel who stays here for upto 6 months a year. What an absolute recommendation. The chicken wings starter was the best chicken wings we have ever tasted . Phenomenal. The steaks were cut to absolute perfection and the mushrooms were to die for. I would honestly come back here just for tea if I could get cheap 20 pound return flights and fly back later in the evening. Absolute top class , never mind all the cafes restaurants on the main roads , get to to this place and make sure you book. Quite frankly 1 of if not the best meals we have ever had. Thank you very much.

The last evening we spent in the Algarve (Sept 23)

Visited 4 years ago and returned this week. Restaurant appears a lot more modern inside and the toilet is very modern and clean with a lock on the door which we found is rare in the Algarve. Menu is not the largest however offers great value for the amount of food portioned on the plate. Food was so tasty and felt like it was home from home cooking. Starters through to main courses were just divine. Couldn’t ask for better quality. Everyone was happy with their courses however couldn’t finish all their plates full of food. The restaurant is very stuffy as it appeared the AC unit wasn’t on or working well in the centre of the restaurant therefore the ceiling fans were on blowing hot air around the restaurant. The menus are within glass which gives a more professional feel. Staff are attentive and friendly however you do feel sometimes as though you have a time slot of 1h 30m for one table in order to squeeze everyone in. The phone never stopped where the owner had to decline requests of tables due to lack of availability. Goes to show the lady owner has a fantastic expertise and works very hard throughout the season to deliver excellent customer service. I challenge anyone to order the meat sharer for 2 offering for €50 - I’d have to starve myself for a week!

modest facade but great food

Not a large menu but wide ranging. All meals very well cooked and presented with great service. Do not have a starter..I am a big chap but have never, in many visits, been able to finish the main course. Any couple who order the "mixed grill for 2" and finish it are truly deserving of respect. Most main dishes in range 15 to 20 euro.

This restaurant is absolutely superb. We have travelled the world and eaten in many supposedly top restaurants but they are not as good as The Cockerel. Top quality food - check. Large (non Michelin portions) check - in fact a doggy bag is almost always essential) and the service is superb. How Trip Advisor has moved The Cockerel to 26th from 1st is completly mind-blowing. I am the 3rd most reviewed Trip Advisor person in my city and would therefore expect my opioion to be respected somewhat.

I stayed for a week in Albufeira with my partner and unfortunately we could not get a booking for dinner as it was always fully booked out. We instead decided to go for lunch (roast dinner) and let me tell you the roast beef was absolutely second to none. They also give you a huge portion of fresh vegetables. We were blown away and it was out favorite meal of the week. Beautiful desserts too. It's a gem of a restaurant. My advice is book before arrival and get down here for lunch or dinner. I regret we couldn't get an evening meal but hopefully on return next year we will get a chance. Thanks again.

Well worth the wait!

This restaurant is very difficult to book as it is nearly always fully booked, we tried on a number of occasions to just turn up but each time left disappointed. However we tried on our second last night and Wow it was absolutely excellent, I can now see why this place commands all the great reviews. We had the platter between us, 2 x sirloin steak, barbecue chicken and Piri Piri chicken and other meat dishes too many to mention. Cooked to absolute perfection, highly recommended. Don’t miss out book in advance you will not be disappointed

Excellent family restaurant with a friendly atmosphere. Great variety on the menu and some beautiful Portuguese wines on offer. Food portions are very generous, and everything was cooked to perfection. Recommended, but make sure you reserve a table as it is very popular.

We struggled to get in at this well recommended restaurant booking a table 4 days in advance just to get in. A good sign! Every table on arrival was reserved and the phone was non stop with bookings. Really friendly helpful staff and excellent quick service. We ate like kings! The garlic mushrooms were fantastic as were the garlic bread and halloumi fries for starters. I had a delicious rib eye with homemade chips, hubby loved his burger, son’s fish and chips were huge and excellent, daughter loved her scampi, son loved his kids meal which was adapted for us on request with no problems and other daughter loved her steak pie with huge pieces of melt in the mouth meat, desserts were also absolutely amazing. We were so so full and the bill was really reasonable for the high standard of food. Shame we couldn’t get in until the last night of our holiday. My advice would be to book as soon as you arrive and then you can return as I am positive you will want to! Absolutely gorgeous!

We are a family of 4 with 2 teens. We did try to walk in but the restaurant was very busy the owner was great though and booked us a table for the next evening. So glad we went it was easily our favourite meal of our holiday. The battered prawns to start were out of this world. My husband and I shared the mixed grill platter it was amazing the steak was so juicy and everything else cooked to perfection. We didn’t realise how big the portion were so couldn’t finish our meals but they packed up the nearly 2 full racks of ribs that were left and we enjoyed them for lunch the next day. Fabulous service and good great value too.

Fantastic Experience

Went with friends for Sunday Lunch having had it recommended, they were not wrong from the warm welcome to the food choices which suit all tastes. We had the Sunday dinner beef, and our friends had lamb along with the vegetables everything was cooked to perfection. Dessert were equally as good. The prices are excellent also. All agreed Fantastic Experience and we will definitely be back and recommend. To avoid disappointment suggest you ring and book in advance as gets busy.

we booked three night before we went to Portugal had eaten their last year and knew how hard to get table. Did say in email that was gluten free was advised that they don't do gluten food but would help as much as possible also i don't eat meat. When arrived was offered fresh cod and with veg and new potatoes also chicken breast also fresh strawberries for sweet I couldn't fault the service or the food and the way they went out of their way to help. on the Sunday evening they had the Sunday roast for 12 euros came with 3 different meats and a chicken dish to choose from with 6 veg. will be back next year but will book again before going. Thank you and your staff for caring

Super food at great value The Cockerel

We ate here for the first time . The food was delicious and such great value for money . The steaks were cooked to perfection, the ribs fell off the bone. The chicken skewers tasty served with vine tomatoes, onion rings, mushrooms and home made chips for only 45€ unbelievable.
