We reseved one week in advance and asked for the Chef's menu. All of this was done over the internet. We arrived to find three well appointed table of six. The chef;s menu was excellent. The main course--lamb--was probably the best meal we had in...Holland. The wine, which we chose on the chef's recommendation, was also excellent. My only complaint was that we drank all six bottles and we could have had a few more. That was probably our mistake for not adressing wines in advance.More

Dinner was a 4-course menu with chef’s choice of wine. Perfect balance and great pallet of tastes. After dinner you can take an evening walk to the mill and down into a park.

Mallemolen is located at the edge of old town Gouda near an old mill. It has a living room like ambiance and white linen on the tables. On sunny days there is an outside terrace. We took the 3 course Chef's menu (38,50) and got...a tasting of salmon (smoked, baked and salad) as a starter, lam with asparagus and herb sauce as mains and pannacotta with marinated strawberries as desert. Some of us took the 'exclusive' pairing of wines. Other had to drive :) We found the tasting of salmon technically correct but uninspired. The smoked salmon was just that, no drip of lime or horseradish. The baked salmon was nice and crispy but again just that. The salad, you guessed it. The lam was nice and rose but the herb sauce contained too much salt for our taste. Dessert was enjoyable. The staff is friendly and helpful. Reading a social context needs some more practice though. We were invited by our friends and they wanted to pay without us knowing the grand total. Verbal and non verbal nudges were missed. This restaurant is at odds with itself. It has a menu setup matching quality restaurants elsewhere (chef's menu, two levels of wine pairings) and a white linen setting. Which sets an expectation. But it sadly doesn't deliver.More

I visited this restaurant recently. My choice of venue was based on the reviews of others here on tripadvisor. I would just like to say that I was more than happy with my experience. We were a party of four adults who enjoy eating out....Mallemolen Restaurant is situated at the end of a terrace of houses which border a canal on a quiet street in Gouda. It is so worth visiting, both for the food, which is carefully cooked and beautifully presented and the ambiance which we found very friendly and relaxed. It is a small restaurant in dimensions but perfectly formed and lends itself to an eating experience for couples or small groups of 4-6.More

You don't go to De Mallemolen for casual dining. You go there if you want to experience a wonderful evening with lovely dishes that taste delicious. It's a small restaurant so I'd advise to make a reservation. The service is great, which isn't necessarily so...in Dutch restaurants. They take their time to tell something about the food and the wine. Would go there again for any special location in or near Gouda.More

My husband and I live in Germany, and whenever we travel, we like to treat ourselves to one fine meal. Of all the places we've been- Paris, Brussels, Salzburg and more- Mallemolen is our number one choice. In every category, first place: atmosphere was charming...and warm, the servers were very attentive and pleasant. Our bottle of white wine was kept chilled by the staff after opening, and it was brought and poured whenever our glasses neared emptiness. The food was mouthwatering and creatively presented, course by course. I am a fast eater by nature, but this cuisine slowed me down to savor each succeeding flavor level. The price was very reasonable for the quality presented, and at the meal's close, the chef chatted with us and escorted us to the door, thanking us for dining and showing us out of his 'home.' If little touches and culinary delights are what you are searching for, search no further than Mallemolen in Gouda. *Dress code: You could eat here in jeans and nice top if you like, but it is a candlelit table for dinner, so you wouldn't be out of place dressing up. Bon appetit!More

Xmas dinner on the 26th Dec 2013. Set menu. It was PHENOMENAL. There were 6 of us. Wine pared with the food was perfect. Fantastic to see a South African wine, homesick! Have to go back and try a la carte. Fantastic people, friendly reception...and great service. Thanx for a memorable evening.More
