Innovative, tasty fish and seafood dishes to share

We sat outside on a warm day with views towards the canals and the cathedral. The menu is highly innovative and, after checking with the waiter, we ordered two starters and two mains between the two of us - all dishes are intended for sharing. We started with the tomato salad with a sea urchin sauce and the octopus which was meant to be on brioche but we asked for it to be on toast instead and they were happy to do this. The octopus was stunning - served with red onion and mayonnaise, and the tomato salad was very nice and very unusual. For the mains we chose the ravioli, stuffed with crayfish, which came with wilted greens and broad beans in a shellfish bisque, and the red mullet which came with dried tuna and white beans. Both were excellent - the dried tuna was especially good. This was a really nice find serving quality fish and shellfish cooked beautifully. With a nice bottle of the house white wine, the bill came to Euros 82.75 (£71.34).

Sea salt "SALUT!"

What a wonderful place this is to treat your taste buds. Delicious dishes from the salty water on your plate, a matching wine and you will feel like you are in 7th heaven :) Actually everything on the menu is recommended, which probably explains why we love coming here so much. In addition to the friendliest, always helpful staff, the large living room is (feels like) a nice place to be. The terrace is highly recommended in summer. I say if you are in Utrecht and you are lucky that there is still a table available... definitely do it, it is worth every euro. Otherwise, just make a reservation and you can be sure that you can come and enjoy yourself. I say go for it!!

We ventured over to the Sea Salt Saloon, in Utrecht, on a recommendation from a friend of a friend. She lives in Utrecht, and is quite the foodie, so we thought why not?! It was right around the corner from our hotel (which is only 2 minutes from the Dom Tower- great location!). We were there on a Thursday night and it was packed. We didn’t make a reservation so we were very lucky to snag the last available table inside (if you want to go there, make a reservation to be sure you get a table). The atmosphere was electrifying. Everyone was chatting away, laughing, and having a great time. The dim lights enhanced the vibe as the chefs behind the counter prepare dishes with great care. We started off with a bottle of wine. We got an English menu (yay!) so we sat and drooled over the many shareable options. We ordered two Oysters to start the meal and then decided on the Squid (baked in tomato- ginger sauce with pearl couscous, spring onion & parsley), Razor Clams (with garlic, almond flakes & herbal oil), and the Wild Argentine Gambas (unpeeled, with Spanish pepper and garlic parsley dip). We ended up getting an extra dish (the Sea Bass somehow ended up on our table and we ate it before we realized we didn’t in fact order it). We brought it up to the waiter and I don’t think he quite understood what happened. It was on the bill but we didn’t mind paying because it was DELICIOUS). The food was incredible. Everything was so fresh and had so many different flavours and aromas. The Razor Clams we’re my favourite. I don’t know if I’d order the gambas again, only because I hate having to peel them, but they were also very tasty. I’m glad we popped in and we’re able to get a table at the Sea Salt Salon. I was able to eat there without hesitation (tons of options without dairy or gluten) and I LOVE seafood. It wasn’t overly expensive, definitely not as cost effective as a greasy fish and chips meal, but 10/10 a better option if you can spend the money and have the time to sit and enjoy the meal. Reserved for three people on December 30 but we got a table for 2 because "everything was full". Ordering dessert was impossible because "the reservation was for 1 hour". Wow. Delicious seafood with beautiful plating. Great cocktails, good service, friendly environment. We went without a reservation and were sat inside. Because we initially wanted to sit outside, they were kind enough to let us know that a table became available. The inside has a vibrant atmosphere and the outside is a bit tight, but cozy. The toasted brioche withe the octopus was the highlight. Chipirones, the roasted artichoke hearts, the carabinero prawns were absolutely delicious. A must visit for all seafood lovers.

We had already made a reservation because it was very busy, although early in the evening. Small space and a bit noisy but ok for an hour, however not suitable for small children. The ravioli was ok, so was the squid, but in terms of price, the carabinero shrimp with a good grain of salt. Tasty, but way too expensive. For the price I expect at least 4 copies, or 2 large ones. Wine was fine. Portion of fries, reasonable price. Fast, friendly service. Next time, maybe lunch.

I went back for a second time because they bought me. The staff is supernice watching your needs and smiling permanently, the chefs are really enjoying their work everyone wants to have you a good time here. I ordered the seabream first then the turbot and I got them really fast, both were very delicious. The place is very cosy but be aware that it is quite popular so if you arrive in the busy hours you won't get a table. They have some couple of tables outside on the street as well. Whole-heartedly recommend!

After walking around the Oude Gracht and surrounding neighbourhoods in central Utrecht, this was The best spot to stop. Great variety of fish dishes cooked to perfection with great accompaniments. We tried the Zeebaars and Inktvis to share together with the Salade van Kropsla. We came back for seconds, sharing some Franse frieten and a Dorade. That we have space to share a desert was only because we waited a long time between dishes. Take your time here! We sat outside and were able to watch the Utrecht life in real time.

The place is not directly in the center of the city but very close, close to the canals. The atmosphere of the place is very nice, you can see how it is cooked. The food was very good, the portion is a bit small but the quality of the fish was very good.

Had a really, really lovely evening yesterday at Sea Salt! Not just the company but the food was delicious and the staff including the chef made their business to ensure we had a great evening. The menu is not extensive but this is actually a very clever way to make sure each dish is spectacular. Very good rapport and interaction with the staff. Definitely coming back!!
