My company and I enjoyed the meal. The chef briefly described what is in the 'plate' and we could see how much love he put in preparation of the dish.

Opened from 4pm to 10pm, this Ethiopian restaurant is a charming place and offers delicious traditional food, including vegetarian options. Furthermore, we are very well welcomed and the waiting after ordering is quick. Don't forget to try a Mongozo beer or a coffee alongside your meal!

Me and my husband really enjoyed our meal at Semhar. The food is tasty and well seasoned, a touch spicy just as I like it. My husband has been working as a chef at an Ethiopian restaurant and he said that the food was great, I suppose he knows what he is talking about. I also liked the laid back... More

Almost everyone ordered the most famous "sharing dish" as far as was there that night. It consists of injera (a form of pancake) and several spicy stew and beans. The food is presented in a unique way. Ethiopian eats with their hands, what we did was tearing pieces of injera to pick up bites of entrées and side dishes. I... More

The food is tasty, great service and restaurant is cosy. It does not have an extensive menu, however, you can try a big plate to share which includes a variety of the different choices (Some of them very spicy). Fruity beer served in a coconut shell totally recommendable. Enjoy !

We enjoyed the menu for 2: - nice waiters - nice food - nice beer The injera was good and it seemed that all the food is indeed hole made. The price is fair We will definitely come back.

This was my first experience of Ethiopian food and boy did I enjoy it! The spice level was perfect and I really loved eating with my hands too. The waiter was really lovely & you can feel his passion for his food. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this lovely restaurant!

Staying in Jordaan

Neighbourhood Profile
Jordaan
One of Amsterdam’s most preferred outdoor markets and some of the city’s favorite watering holes are but two of the many reasons to save ample time for a stroll through this especially convivial warren of narrow streets with its unfair share of quirky shops and quality galleries. Historically a haven for the working class and emigrants, these days the Jordaan is better known as an enclave for artists and designers. As popular as the Jordaan is as a destination for locals and out-of-towners alike, the area never feels particularly touristy or overrun with outsiders. A highlight even for long-time Jordaan residents, be sure to accept any invitation to step within one of the area’s beloved courtyards or to have a sneak peek inside one of its many working studios.
