The food was great, the service perfect and the room is cool with wine bottles studding the walls. But it's closing soon!

Concierge recommendation which was a little scary since when we arrived we were the only people in the restaurant. Servers were naturally very attentive and very helpful. I started with Flammkuchen which was really flatbread pizza with ham, onions and greens. Excellent. Decided on a hamburger with great fries and I enjoyed a perfect meal. My wife decided on shrimp... They are so proud the chef's photo is outside on the menu! And this confidence is not misplaced. Two lovely oysters as a starter followed by flank steak beautifully cooked and crunchy chips. Beer and house wine with free water. €80 + tip for two.

Visited here this evening. First off, the staff are first rate, really attentive and helpful. Unfortunately the food is rubbish. We had chicken and steak as the smell of the charcoal grill outside was amazing. They were both cooked in a bag and anaemic looking and finished on a grill for a stripe of colour. Just crap, really poor. The... More

Nice venue. The food is okay, although the presentation could be better. Service could be improved upon, it is but slow, and we had to ask for the bill twice. Pleasant enough for dinner with friends, but I really did not understand the massive queue waiting to get in when we left after an early dinner. I must be missing... More

Tried everything from starter to desert - ordinary and tasteless food, slow staff. Not worth to visit.

I had low expectations for our meal at Brasserie Harkema after reading the many negative reviews on Trip Advisor. I should mention that our meal was a group dinner that had been organized by a local museum -- so maybe this guarantees good food and service? All I can say is that everything we ate was delicious. I had tuna... More

Oh. My. Lord. The food here was wonderful! Definitely get the Dutch Croquettes - and do not skimp with dessert. They have a central - but out of the limelight location in a wonderfully renovated building!

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
