I hate to even write this, as there were some parts our visit to Van Kerkwijk that were fabulous, but at the end of the day, we walked out disappointed. We only had 1 night in Amsterdam, so after scouring reviews we chose this restaurant...More

We were seated promptly after a drink at the bar. Waitresses were very friendly with a personal touch as menu is read to you. Beef was delicious as was pork pate. More dessert options would have been even better. A great stop in Amsterdam.

Most important advice to provide in this review - do NOT go here if you don’t have two hours to spend sitting down waiting for food instead of exploring the wonderful city of Amsterdam. Now for the complaints: Expensive for what you get. Slow -...More

Thanks for your review! So now I understand your taste and service level, you're used to visit fast food chains, so please do that, and don't waste your time in restaurants, so we can serve other guests who really enjoy our food and hospitality!

Terrible. Don’t ever go if you seek hospitality and polite staff. The woman who received us was so rude. We were pushed to the end of the restaurant to wait whilst so many tables were empty. As we were chatting with the bartender as to...More

Very good local dining - a good value for your money. You can’t make a table reservation but waiting for a while you get a table. Friendy service. An authentic comment of my son, age 13: ”it was in the top of 5 what I...More

This is by far the best meal I had in Amsterdam. No menu, the server will inform you what they’re serving that night because it is always changing. No reservations, so you might have to wait at the bar before you’re seated, but this is...More

We were fortunate to get a table without waiting at 6:30 in the evening at this popular restaurant. The restaurant has a unwritten menu that changes every day that is recited to you by the waitress. There are approximately a half a dozen appetizers, and...More

historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples
of traditional local architecture – not to mention
Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist

Van Kerkwijk, situated at the Nes 41 just behind Dam square, is a classic Amsterdam cafe and restaurant where you can eat and drink from early in the morning till late in the evening. Van Kerkwijk sisters have chosen a personal approach. That's why a menu doesn't exist and your options are presented at the table by your waiter.

Van Kerkwijk stands for quality food and drinks in an urban atmosphere. Characteristic, easy going, value for money. You feel at home between the regular customers who keep returning for the varied menu and the relax atmosphere.

Van Kerkwijk doesn't take reservations, walk in for a table or wait at the bar with a good beer or wine.
