After a 7-year break between visits, De Bolhoed hadn't changed much (they got a different cat), and that's a good thing. The food is a wonderful blend of "home-style" vegetarian or vegan and a regularly-updated menu. Each dish is prepared when ordered, so don't be in a rush -- sit by the canal and enjoy a cool drink anticipating the... More

This is the kind of restaurant which vegetarians had to put up with in Britain up to the 1990s. Then good restaurants started to add delicious veggie options to their menus. The food here is ok, nothing special, but it is far too expensive. Unless you want to pay for some kind of gastronomic walk down memory lane (to darker... More

We visited this restaurant with our vegetarian friend as it was her birthday. Unfortunately the food was very poor, tasteless, odd mix of hot and cold food on one plate. And that was the feedback from our vegetarian birthday girl. The ladies who were serving were rude and inpolite. I guess this was a good restaurant a number of years... More

This is a vegetarian restaurant with plenty of vegan items too. I had a delicious quiche with layers of different vegetables. It came with a good salad and made for an excellent lunch. the decor is eclectic and fun.

Food is very fresh & real, but lacked flavor. VERY limited protein options, which is very important as I am vegetarian and struggle to find protein while traveling. The reviews of this place got my hopes up, but I don't think I would return. The food isn't terrible, but it's just not very good either. Coffee was good and good... More

We had a great early dinner at De Bolhoed. Tasty food, good value, and nice service. Reminded me of veggie places we used to eat at 20 or 30 years ago, and I mean that in a good way! We were very early (on our way back to Schippol), but looked like you would be well advised to book for... More

Having searched on Tripadvisor, we decided to give this a try whilst on a weekend visit to Amsterdam. It was knockout. It is vastly underated. Do not be fooled by the menu which really does not do justice to what is on offer. Both my friend and I tried the vegetable quiche with side salad. Trust me, this is no... More

Daughter came here to pick up lunch. Take out was no problem and she found a lot of options on the menu not to mention the dessert. My daughter got a filled"ragu" croissant and a salad to go as well as a piece of black forest cake. Food was delicious and very well priced. Would love to eat in here... More

The food here was wonderful. I had the croissant stuffed with tofu, vegetables and curry - It was sublime. We also tried a selection of their teas which was delightful. The cafe itself was absolutely beautiful and so delicately decorated. There was even a beautiful ginger cat roaming the room, which was lovely. To top it off, the staff were... More

Staying in Jordaan

Neighbourhood Profile
One of Amsterdam’s most preferred outdoor markets and some of the city’s favorite watering holes are but two of the many reasons to save ample time for a stroll through this especially convivial warren of narrow streets with its unfair share of quirky shops and quality galleries. Historically a haven for the working class and emigrants, these days the Jordaan is better known as an enclave for artists and designers. As popular as the Jordaan is as a destination for locals and out-of-towners alike, the area never feels particularly touristy or overrun with outsiders. A highlight even for long-time Jordaan residents, be sure to accept any invitation to step within one of the area’s beloved courtyards or to have a sneak peek inside one of its many working studios.
