I had read about this lovely place on Lonely Planet and hence decided to seek it out. The chocolate waffles are simply amazing at this place. Words are inadequate to describe this.Simply go there for the chocolates when you visit Amsterdam

Some friends and I found this shop by accident and it turned out to be the best part of our trip to Amsterdam. So much so that it is the first thing I recommend to people who go here! The chocolates, pancakes and general candy available from this shop are amazing! Better than I've had in several chocolate shops across... More

Defiantly recommend Metropolitan for a yummy desert. Very clean and tidy, spoilt with choice. Highly recommend the waffle with chocolate, caramel and white chocolate sauce with salted caramel ice cream. Lovely staff, they all had great customer service. It is close to the red light district.

Me and my girlfriend stopped in here on our first day in Amsterdam and visited everyday after. The food is unreal especially if you've got a sweet tooth. Definitely recommend the waffles and poffertjes with Nutella.

The hot chocolate here is insanely good, it comes straight from a melting machine thats kept warm and it tastes just like melted chocolate, sweet but with that bitterness of real chocolate too and you can have extra milk, which they offer you anyway, to cut through that strong hot choco and its just amazing. Other selection of drinks, with... More

Yesterday we stumbled on Metropolitans, in the very centre of Amsterdam, not knowing is was the fine chocolate place a daughter already told us about. We were stuck by the variety of good and remarkable things they offered. And if you are a chocolate addict: what about a sniff of brown powder they do offer, huh, really fine chocolate indeed.... Went here for breakfast on our last morning in Amsterdam. Had hot chocolate and a pain au chocolate which was very reasonable priced. The hot chocolate is the best I have had. I will be back.

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
