After a smorgasboard of European food, our tastebuds were longing for some Eastern spice and we found it at Samrat's. Small but with attentive service and excellent food (try their Vegetable Korma and fluffy Naan Bread) we were very satisfied.

This restaurant is very close to red light district. When u u feel tiered to explore the streets of red-light district just ask somebody near by u will get the direction to reach this restaurant. Its very small restaurant but they serves good food. They have very limited options but preparation is good.

When I was walking around with my wife in Amsterdam our taste buds wanted to get entertained by Indian food. In a city full of Dutch Snacks, Italian restaurants, Chinese restaurants, Steak restaurants it was quite hard to find. We just walked around and let our nose do the work. We ended up at Samrat, where we got overwhelmed by... More

The restaurant is small and cozy, the food is normal as the service. I like the samosas and also the rice. We were satisfied but not surprised.

Situated near the red light district, we found this restaurant while walking around. A tiny little place which probably seats no more than 30 people, and seemed to be run by the owner. No frills, just sit, order and eat. Menu is varied and reasonably priced. We opted for a main dish, rice and naan , and none of us... More

Very rushed and crowded experience, which might have been ok if the food was good - surprisingly bland, a couple of items had some heat but no flavor

Delicious food at a solid price point and very good service. The Naan is to die for, the chicken tikki savory and tingling on the tongue. All you heard around the table as folks are eating was 'mmmmm' and no more talking. A nice surprise we found in a dark alley.

Thank Marsha M

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
