The whole building was beautifully designed by Berlage, but the Grand Café is a pleasure to stop by for a drink. Friendly staff too.

The Exhibition was great. Once I saw the display at the Beurs Van Berlage about the exhibition, I knew I had to visit it. And I was impressed by the displayed scientific genius of the man. There were few paintings, most of the exhibition is...More

I was really looking forward to this exhibit. However, I was shocked at the poor quality of translation in the English signs, including phrases ending mid-sentence, poor grammar, misspellings, and odd word choices. Staff indicated the problem was known and offered me a discount coupon...More

We stopped for a coffee and enjoyed the painted walls - there are also nice outdoor tables where you can enjoy the sunlight - vast choice also for brunch if you want!

We went for the lunch to the grand cafe. They have a lovely terrace with the sun shining on your face. We ordered a burger and a ceaser salad. The food is really nice but the service can be more attentive.

Lovely old building with pretty mosaics on the walls, though some of the cheesy pop music clashed a little. The food was nice and portions filling (good chips too), but frankly overpriced - the cappuccino and sandwich offerings were average at best, and they'll charge...More

Located in a Berlage building (the Beurs is the Dutch stock market), the Grand Cafe is ideally situated right off Dam Square near many major bus/tram routes, next to the Beijnkorf (high-end department store) and is a step above most of the restaurants in this...More

We had just been to the Body Works and fancied a ditch down to give our weary feet a rest. The square looked a great place to people watch and we sat on chairs provided with a cushion and even a blanket for warmth. We...More

Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the
Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its
saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to
view some of the city’s most picturesque canals,
historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples
of traditional local architecture – not to mention
Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist
temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some

This restaurant was once the old stock exchange.Situated at the far end of the large red brick building opposite the Central Station in Amsterdam.Had a wonderful table overlooking the square, in the warm suntrap at the top of a flight of steps. Our waiter was attentive, cordial and efficient. After one ice cold beer, ordered the Hamburger (not cheap at 14.75 Euros) although it came with fires (piping hot) crispy bacon and cheese. You have got to have one of these. The burger was great minced beef was delicious, about 1 inch thick and perfectly cooked. The juices from the meat oozed out as you took each bite. It was one of, if not the best burger I have ever eaten. A totally enjoyable experience as you watch the world world go by. Try it you won't be disappointed.
