Wonderful sunny day in Amsterdam, so we were lucky to find a lunch spot at all as it seemed nobody had to work on this Friday afternoon and all the terraces in the area were packed. Service and food were so-so. A lof of "attitude" among the staff save for some. Same can be said of the patronage; we saw... More

Sunday evening and feeling peckish. We found George as it was close (2 tram) to our hotel (Best Western Hotel Couture) and away from the tourist traps. It looked a fun place with an outside patio at the front and was full of locals. We found a table inside and were served very well by an attentive waiter - Max... More

This place plays off it's sunny terrace, and proximity to the Vondelpark. The food was good, but it's very poorly managed. Some of our food never arrived, other things arrived at three separates stages. Three requests for tap water, ignored... Staff arrogant. Table behind us waiting for an hour for their food.

Been here many times. It's very up and down with the service. Food is usually good but it's always the staff and service which ruins this place. Tonight we waited 10 minutes after being seated at a dirty table before being asked for a drink. We ordered and the table didn't get cleaned, no menus given, and waited another 15... More

The GEORGE is at a perfect place for me, I like this area! The choice of food they offer is very good and the food itself is of very good quality ... however: when you eat the same dish (I favor the Linguine with Lobster @ 22,50 EUR) you might see differences between the al-dente of the Linguine, the amount... The menu is OK, not very special. What is special is that they have a quiet big terrace in the sun. People from Amsterdam Zuid are a bit posh, but don't mind them and enjoy the sun! :)

Right around the corner of the famous Vondelpark with an outside terrace to soak up some rays during lunch. The food is great. The ambience high-end. The service is excellent. The price is right. Try the steak tartare

Had a confirmed reservation for a nearby Italian restaurant, which went wrong (restaurant closed). We went to George WPA and had some excellent pasta's and drinks. Good service, fair prices and a good atmosphere which is a combination of business people and friends.

The location is frankly all this place has going for it. The food we had at lunch was poor, especially the Reuben sandwich (lots of sauerkraut and a very thin slice of pastrami on whole wheat bread). Re: the service, it's definitely without a smile. There are too many great options in the area (such as The Seafood Bar) to... More

Staying in Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)

Neighbourhood Profile
Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)
Top sites to see in this attractive and affluent part of town include the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, to name but two of the highly acclaimed museums of the aptly named Museum Quarter. And if you need a break from all the fantastic art, there’s the Neoclassical Concertgebouw music hall and Vondelpark, the city’s largest park. Shopaholics and luxury brand connoisseurs will love exploring the high-end shopping destinations of PC Hooftstraat, Van Baerlestraat, Cornelis Schuytstraat, and Jacob Obrechtstraat, where even the shop window displays are of museum quality. In the evenings, when the museums close and the daytrippers head home, the area becomes a quiet oasis of calm with a sophisticated and urbane tone.
