We hardly ever go back to the same restaurant twice in a vacation - we always talk about it that evening....and then get carried away with a new exciting place we have just found the next day.....not so La Oliva...... First time we went was at lunch on Weds 23/3 - we happened to be walking by (and I had... More

Go for the prawn and mushroom tapas. Very tasty! The other one with a ham and compote is good too but the compote is too sweet

We had read some good things about this restaurant before we went but we were disappointed. The food was dull and the service slow. It appears that it has become a little of a tourist trap.

The food was very good in La Oliva. It is well worth a visit. Wine was delicious too. Would recommend when in Amsterdam. Amazing!

We stopped in late, with no reservation. They found us a table right away, and still had some pinxtos available. Have to say that even though they had clearly been out a while, the pinxtos were wonderful. Not sure what it was exactly, but was all delicious, For dinner I had the deer medallions and truffle potatoes. It was delicious.... More

We stumbled on this tapas restaurant while roaming the streets and canals. What a lovely find!!! A charming little place with friendly staff and very good food. Not expensive in any way at all and had a good mix of locals and tourists alike. The homemade soup was extremely good and the varied bar laid tapas were amazing.

A departure from the fundamental tapas, however the combinations used were absolutely delicious. Very pleased. Arrived at 19.00 and the place was packed by 20.00. Apparently THE place to dine in the Jordaan.

La Oliva was a great find for us! It is affordable and great Spanish food. They have different fresh tortillas daily in addition to their menu. It is located in the very cool Jordaan area.

I was very happy here. The quality of food matched the service. Expect large tapas - with an array of choices including seafood, meats and vegetarian options. Or pick a main from the menu. Drink selection is standard. Great place.

My colleagues and myself have been to this restaurant for dinner several times. Making reservations (especially on Friday) is highly recommended as it is usually packed. We have consistently tried only one dish (simply because it is so good!!) - and it is listed as Zarzuela de pescados y mariscos in their menu. You need a minimum of 2 to... More

Staying in Jordaan

Neighbourhood Profile
One of Amsterdam’s most preferred outdoor markets and some of the city’s favorite watering holes are but two of the many reasons to save ample time for a stroll through this especially convivial warren of narrow streets with its unfair share of quirky shops and quality galleries. Historically a haven for the working class and emigrants, these days the Jordaan is better known as an enclave for artists and designers. As popular as the Jordaan is as a destination for locals and out-of-towners alike, the area never feels particularly touristy or overrun with outsiders. A highlight even for long-time Jordaan residents, be sure to accept any invitation to step within one of the area’s beloved courtyards or to have a sneak peek inside one of its many working studios.
