Nice resto in downtown Maastricht, 5 min. walk from trainstation. Food is good! As good as in the small but very good butchery/charcuterie. Friendly service. Building is old butchery. They kept some original features in the resto which creates a nice ambiance. Recommended. We’ll be...back.More

The atmosphere: The location sets the tone. Dining in the back of a butcher’s shop, you are warmly welcomed into the artisan’s inner sanctum. Quite literally, the curtain is pulled back to reveal where the magic happens. If the way into the restaurant has something...of the speakeasy mystique about it, the vaguely art deco interior design maintains that flavour without leaning into it too hard. It is also homely, bringing the story of the ‘family business’ to life. The attentiveness of the staff throughout the evening reinforces the idea that you have been invited in, to join an extended family of those with a passion for food, and meat in particular. Perfectly balanced dishes (menu balance reasonable): We ordered the chef’s menu, without looking at the menu (we prefer to be surprised). There is tasty food. And then there are special dishes, which result in a moment of pure enjoyment at which you can’t help but smile. These special dishes offer a perfect bite, in which flavour and textures are perfectly balanced. We experienced that special moment twice in four courses at Onglet. If I have one criticism of our experience, I would reflect that whilst each dish was perfectly balanced, the menu overall did not quite hit all the notes that I would have hoped. Perhaps it’s due to my cultural understanding of English butchers but I missed a dish that presented a darker meat with a deeper flavour profile - game, venison, mutton or even a strong cut of beef. For me, setting veal (which can charitably be described as ‘subtle’ in terms of flavour) as the highpoint of the menu was a little disappointing. Beautiful details: The bread had a twist of stinging nettle. The charcuterie a twist of fennel. The frothed cream of asparagus was served in a really beautiful coffee cup. Pleasing details kept cropping up to delight, throughout the evening. In June I dined at Sinne in Amsterdam. Sinne has a Michelin star. The quality of food was at least as good at Onglet and the atmosphere and service better. I highly recommend a visit to Onglet.More

We had been recommended this restaurant by friends of ours who live in Deventer. Before we booked we got on our bikes and rode to the restaurant in the very fashionable and funky Wyck District and to our surprise we found a charcuterie but no...obvious place to have dinner. Intriguing for sure! On arrival for our designated time, we were met at the front door of the charcuterie and escorted through a hidden door in to a very elegantly decorated restaurant and the so our journey began. As it turns out, Onglet was a butcher shop with the restaurant located behind the shop in what was the butchers workplace where the meat was received, cut and prepared. It had the original tiles on the floor and you could see where the entrance to the meat safe was located. We opted for the Chefs Choice which was a 6 course degustation delight and in my opinion when chosing this type of option, you get to try dishes that you may not select ordinarily. For me that was the Veal Sweetbreads. So for us it is the element of surprise that attracts. Highly recommended and we will be visiting Onglet again soon. Just a lovely food experience delivered by excellent professional staffMore

Highly recommended. Would visit again. Great selection of charcuterie. Glazed pork was amazing - on a par with Michelin star restaurants. Steak tasty. Nettle bread was soft and warm. Service was super friendly and accommodating. We would highly recommend and visit again.

This restaurant was advised to us by locals. It is better to reserve a table in advance, as it really is one of the best restaurants in Maastricht. The place is hidden in the butcher's store, and in the evening seems close, unless you ring...the bell on your left. There is an amazing selection of charcuterie and meat dishes, however, even vegetarians will not leave hungry. Everything we tasted was very fresh and nicely cooked, the service was exceptional.. There is a good wine card. For 2 starters, 3 mains and a bottle of wine we paid 45 euros, which is a very fair price for the Netherlands. Highly recommended!More

This is really a special place to try. First of all not easy to find the entrance as you need to go in via the butcher's shop. in the evening there is only a bell with a plate restaurant at the streetside . So once...you ring the bell they come to open the shop and show you to restaurant in back. Food is all small plates with great taste and beautiful outlook. They have great wines as well. The prices are above average but quality of food is well worth it.Would surely go back in future.More

We came back to introduce our friends to this nice restaurant. Always a pleasure when the staff recognizes you from former visits. As in the past, we had a wonderful evening with great food (we had the set menu), good wines and top service.

We had a very nice surprise at Onglet . They ticked all the boxes atmosphere, location, food, wine and service. As wines we had a glass of montepulciano and a glass of white Wijngaardsberg which were superb especially taking into account the price. To start...we got some delicious schmaltz and prosciutto, perfect. I only added some olive oil and pepper to up the taste of the prosciutto. Subsequently we had the beet starter which was to die for. Very subtle. And as entree we had the onglet and tournedos and sweet potatoes on this side again out of this world perfect taste. The sweet potatoes are a must. We took the remainder of the sweet potatoes home because they were so so good. To finish off we had the chocolate dessert which was a bit too doctored I would keep it more simple. We were served by Tim and the service couldn’t have been more professional and friendly. The price for the dinner was €85, which was amazing value for money. Onglet is a must when you visit Maastricht !! G.GroenewegenMore

Very cosy and trendy place, warm welcome by the ever friendly staff. Original concept; we went for the 6 course menu (95€ for two) and started with some good appetizers (fresly cut cured meat, mushroom cream with crackers, ...). Followed the starters: wonderful beetroot creation...and succulent matured picanha with light foie gras pralines. Followed a beautiful dish with clams and caramelised rib meat + well prepared monk fish. Came fresh chinese cabbage and we beautiful piece of deer. Nice cheese platter and interesting, correct wine list.More
