We were not expecting much because we had been there a couple of times before, years ago, and always found it to beexpensive, not very good and to have rude service. We thought to give it another chance today, about 20 years later :). Well,...this time was certainly different. The food was varied and delicious and the service was professional, friendly and very attentive. It IS a pricey place. Nevertheless, we wil definitely be back. Five Stars.More
Excellent, friendly service. Relaxed atmosphere. But the food is rather average and some of the dishes were not at all well prepared. Good vegetarian gyoza. Tempura crayfish was cold and tasteless. Other dishes (both from the bar and a la carte) were nothing special. Sushi...is already quite pricey in Zurich, but this place is in another price class.More
I live very close and I am half Japanese so I felt I check it out again after not going there for 5 years after few bad experience. It was worse than last time, this time it was not only the bad food like oil...soaked Tempura and other not at all well made entrées and sushi but waiters were super clumsy with words, basically had to laugh the whole time. I also witnessed ready made sushi rolls in Tupperware bearing plated. That’s really a bit much when it’s supposed to be a sushi bar and supposed to be “sushi chef” is standing there…he was just plating clumsily forgetting our order. It’s so bad it’s funny. Until you get the bill then it’s really not so funny or too funny to laugh. Migro sushi is better and more stable quality.More
Completely overpriced for what you get. Tiny little portions that look more like nice appetizers (not even starters…). Taste - nothing outstanding. After the 3 course “dinner” at Ginger we had to go to a different restaurant nearby to finally eat.
Probably one of the worse experience I had with Japanese cuisine. Service was amazing. Had a young and obviously new waiter who was so nice and tried his best. At least it saved the experience. But honestly, we tried their special sushi plate - not...good. Small, mostly sashimi, overcooked or at least tasteless shrimp and very disappointing overall. The rice was not even cooked well. We ordered more dishes to see if it was just a wrong choice… the tuna tartare was topped with so much fish eggs that it didn’t taste like tuna anymore. The winter crab was a disaster. The octopus carpaccio was just uh.. overall, I do not recommend this place. I had a good time because of the company, but a very mediocre mill. And BTW, I never complain about food… i think it’s just fair to share. Spent a lot of money there and will never go back again. Maybe you have a different experience ;)More
The restaurant location is nice, the waitresses are kind, but the taste of the food is below average.
Some not nice things. - No indication as to how much each plate costs (#1=9chf, #6=25chf) - Empty plates are taken away so that you have no idea how much you have eaten. The bar has been designed in way that there is no space...to keep the empty plates. - On the carousel there is only the most expensive fish plates. None of the "normal" Sushi with rice. That must be asked for and then you will be given them. Otherwise you are left looking at the #5 & #6 going around wondering how much does each of these actually cost. -Service excellentMore
We were a large group and went to the restaurant Ginger for dinner. The friendly service and the food was absolutely outstanding. Sure, the food at the Ginger has a slightly higher price but the products and creations are absolutely amazing. The creations of the...A La Cart menu were all surprising in their own way and a true feast for the senses. The open kitchen area also allows you to watch the kitchen chefs at work. It was fascinating to see the care and precision with which the products are prepared and arranged. We will come back again! Absolutely recommendable and nothing to complain about.More
I was a lover of this restaurant since the first day it opened, NO LONGER. As the new corona times has opened up in Switzerland I was so excited to go to eat at what WAS a favorite restaurant of mine. Today it ended. One...plate of sushi stunk to high hell, I sent it back and was told numerous times that I am wrong not to like it it’s perfect! Well it wasn’t... lazy is the new word and no care for the customer. Be warned bad raw fish is no fun!More
My first Japanese meal was exactly 42 years ago.....when my father would say that meat has to be savoured medium or a-point.....and fish had to be cooked. On the contrary Japanese cuisine serves partly fish raw, and today also the fine Italian cuisine serves fish..."crudo" as long as its been freshly fished (my dream). We went as a couple to Ginger, because we have spent half of our lives in Sao Paulo, Brazil where you can find over 500 Japanese restaurants and an important Japanese immigration originating from the 60ties. We used to eat Japanese food (mostly sushi and sashimi) twice a week (for years) . So I claim the right to say that I have pretty good idea about Japanese food ..I ate almost everything that they serve, even the lethal blow-fish....... Ginger is a nice place, they reserved a place in a corner of the sushi bar where my blind dog would be un-disturbed by people passing by. Big point. We had the tasting menu and it was really nice. I need to return there to challenge their savoir-faire.....but as it seems very popular, I'm no sure I'll get to the point of testing what I know...... A hint: look at he menu of The Japanese of Chedi in Andermatt (1* Michelin)More
I was there with my friends on birthday. We were enjoying food and variety of Japanese food. Of cause they do hv things much better than sushi. Choose and sit inside is much better for group than bar .
I like to hunt down good sushi places when I’m outside of the US...Just my thing; to get one good sushi restaurant that I come home to when I’m in its city. Of all the sushi restaurants of every city I’ve visited in Europe so...far I have three places that would recommend. This one in Zurich, called Ginger, is one of them. Seafood is very fresh and hostess are super efficient and friendly. Without hesitation they will alter the type of fish according to your liking.More
This tiny restaurant is fairly casual and appears to be very popular with a younger clientele. Reservations are recommended, however our one, made by the hotel, had mysteriously disappeared, however, a table was quickly found. We had decided to eat in the part of the...restaurant away from the kaiten conveyor belt selection of sushi. Perhaps this was a mistake as we could not watch the chef preparing all the various dishes. However, as we wanted to catch up on our news, the restaurant area was far better choice for conversation. The menu, although small, is quite varied and can satisfy most requests. Sashimi was expertly prepared and presented, as was the tempura which was light, crisp and very hot. Although the food was acceptable, I was somewhat disappointed as, after living in Tokyo, it seemed to lack the finesse I had come to expect, even from neighbourhood restaurants. I found the lack of air conditioning in a confined area to be uncomfortable and unexpected until I learnt that the Swiss are encouraged to very energy efficient and temperatures are controlled at 19 degrees. Unfortunately this visit coincided with unusually high temperatures across most of Europe - a Japanese fan would have been welcome!More
We kind of ended up at Ginger due in part to needing to find a new sushi place (our favorite in Widen/Berikon has closed) and because visiting friends requested sushi. Once there we were greeted nicely (how Swiss) and asked if lounge seating would be...o.k. as the sushi bar was fully reserved. It turned out to be great! The variety was vast and the flavors.... wow! If I had one small complaint it would be that once it got more busy, the selection dwindled quite a bit and we ended up giving up waiting for more. The chef was working as hard as he could but couldn't keep up with demand. We also tried a couple of the desserts and they were also fantastic. Decor is really nice, service and drinks were all very good. We'll definitely be going back as we've talked about it multiple times since we were there.More
