We just happened to be in front of the Black Bar while looking at the Duomo and the Baptistery on the Piazza del Duomo. The food in the shop's display case looked fresh and delicious and was reasonably priced. The shop looked clean. Customers were starting to come in for a bite to eat so we joined them in a... More

We only had one day in Florence this trip, and after rushing to see the Duomo, the Academia, the Medici Chapel and other key sights in the city, we rushed back to the Black Bar because their fare was so visually appealing. We had a mix of items from Pizza to Lasagna, my brother even had the wings and grilled... More

I lived in Florence for 3 months. I went here many times for the excellent service, food, and banter. Absolutely fantastic staff (especially Barbara) and it was my favorite lasagna in Tuscany. It's near the Duomo. Pop in for a snack, lunch, or drinks. You will get a great Italian experience. -Tall American

Of all the gelato places we visited in Florence and Rome, this place was the worst. The quality of the ice cream was just ok. However, the staff working there was rude, snippy and condescending. We felt very uncomfortable and unwelcome there. For an idea of how unhappy we were after our visit, this is the first time I have... More

Black Bar serves excellent pizza, we loved the cherry tomato with anchovies and the prosciutto with rocket. The staff are really friendly. Great location, just off the duomo square.

This semi-self-serve restaurant served good food, and it was clean and not too busy. There is a large selection of pizza by the slice and orders can also be made from the kitchen. The orders are brought to your table.

Ice cream in Italy is always a delight. However, when at the Duomo, a refreshing snack is a necessity. The black bar ice cream was great! Also the focaccia sandwiches were extraordinary. The bread was fresh and crispy, the vegetables were fresh and perfectly grilled and the mozzarella cheeses was excellent. ...and there is free WiFi

We were delighted to discover that this small spot right across from the Duomo offered a broad variety of the freshest, most delicious pizza we had on our entire 2 week tour of Italy. So good that we returned there for lunch a second time!

Our first day out in Florence and we needed something quick to eat. Step forward the Black Bar. Excellent food, well prepared and presented. The pizza is delicious, not to mention the focaccias. We went back a few times during our stay and it became a real favourite. I'll miss not being able to get lunch there!

Staying in Duomo

Neighbourhood Profile
Florentia, as it was called by Latins, is permeated by an eternal beauty spread in all corners of the city. The historic center is characterized by the immensity of the Duomo, able to transport tourists into the brightest age of Florence: the Renaissance. Who does not know the Brunelleschi Dome, San Giovanni Baptistery and the Giotto’s Campanile? Everything is enclosed here and it would be easy to imagine the city as it was in ancient times, with maids walking in the main square and horses carrying coaches. Nowadays, roads are busy with street artists. Rustic Tuscan bakeries give way to fashion shops; just stop for a few minutes in the middle of Piazza della Repubblica to enjoy the colors and sweet melody of the carousel that will bring back great memories from anyone’s childhood.
