With no reservations tonight, we decided to walk around and look at hole-in-wall places that weren't full with lines out the door. We did this expecting not to have 5* food or 5* service. That being said, we were extremely surprised at what we good. The service was very good (except for the does not include service charge stamp), I... More

It started with the waiter who advised us on the wine. He wanted us to try "one of his best white wines". This white had cork. Clearly. Not his fault, but not admitting was... We chose a red instead. Food: tagliata looked like it was served before, cold too. Like the stone cold plates where it was served on, potatoes... More

Waiters are efficient, the place is buzzing. Their pizzas are quite good, but I would deginitely recommend one dish, the squid. A lot of garlic and a freshly prepared squid. Excellent.

With a group of 7 it is challenging to find a table without reservation - with this restaurant it was easy. Maybe should have taken this as the first warning sign... Service was slow and arrogant and menu didn't come to life at all on the plates... Had to wait for the dishes for hour after ordering, something seemed to... More

Should have known the restaurant was going to be a disappointment when it was empty when we walked by at 8:30 - we thought maybe it hadnt opened yet. When my husband was looking it up for reviews outside the restaurant, the waiter came out and asked us if we wanted to come in, felt we had to. Food was... More

Garlic pasta was amazing. Campari was to die for (she said it was "death in a glass". Not the same thing). Waiter was friendly and a bit cheeky.

We noticed this place as it a restaurant in a small church and having had no luck with our 1st choice of TA researched place to eat on our first night in Florence. Having looked at a few other restaurant we though we'd trust our luck to Tre Merli. Poor choice. The service was reasonable, but the food was bland... More

We stopped by for a quick lunch. The waitress initally only handed over the menu excluding the pizza menu, which happens to be cheaper. Regardless of the price, we wanted something simple, so we ordered a lasagna and a pizza. Pizza was good; but the lasagna was badly prepared, was burned on the edge and dried up from heating over... Very bad service, the waiter was just rude and he didn't pay enough attention to service. We had worst pizza in Italy so far.

We where travelling with 5 children and hence required a broad spectrum of choices mainly for kids. That is, pizza and pasta and something a bit different for Mum and Dad. The pizzas a re fair and the pasta does the trick, pepper steak was good. We had excellent service. Cost around $140 euro for mains, soft drinks and a... More

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
