My wife and I adore Florence. We also love Champagne. "So what?" I hear you ask. Well here's the thing: whilst visiting on a long-overdue romantic weekend we happened across Enotecca Alessi whilst wandering through the back streets near Cathedral of Santa Maria del FioreI (Il Duomo to you and me). I, predictably for me, ordered a simply stunning glass... More

I brought a group of students here for the 'Traditional Italian' wine tasting - after doing extensive research, I found that Enoteca Alessi was the best price for a 3 wine tasting which included not only Chianti, but the Vino Nobile and the Brunello. Not only were they able to accommodate us with only a few days' notice, but we... More

An attraction in its own right...the art of Italian wine in one place...then every spirit you can imagine plus deli style items...just not enough hours in the day or euros in the pocket.

I came here during a good and wine tour and had the best presseco I've ever had in my life! Sweet crisp and delicious and what made it even more sweet was that I shipped some home for 60 euro! Really happy about that. The selection of wine is also huge! And they had some specialty bottles (For example pink... More

We went in for a light lunch and to see what wines they had to offer. Blew our doors off on both, lunch and wines. We were six hungry folks the waiter suggested that we order the "plank" along with our wines. He brought out a table long plank of wood covered in antipasti, more food than the six of... More

I have visited this place many times. It is a bit overwhelming at first. Go in and order a wine tasting. The red wines were brilliant. The service here is terrific. They will also usually take the time to explain the wines-like Carlo did when I visited this week. He did a great job and he is in the wine... More

Stopped into this wine bar waiting for our tour of the Duomo to start. Ordered a glass of Chianti. The hostess brought an excellent Chianti Classico along with these delicious rolls filled with sliced pork. The rolls were complimentary because they don't believe you get the full experience of their wine without food. They have an excellent selection of wines... More

A couple of blocks from the Duomo but slightly hidden is this gem of a restaurant. They offer an incredible inventory of wines and liqueurs. Their antipasto board is prepared in the moment with a selection of meats and cheese that is upsurpassed - it's not to be missed and is the perfect lunch or afternoon snack. The venue is... More

This place has it all! First the wine, more than 2000 labels in the cellar! Fabulous wine bar with tasting and food. The on the house snacks are sooo good! Yum. The workers are so nice, helpful and knowledgeable. If shopping for wine they don't just want to spend your money. The market has so many food products you will... More

Staying in Duomo

Neighbourhood Profile
Florentia, as it was called by Latins, is permeated by an eternal beauty spread in all corners of the city. The historic center is characterized by the immensity of the Duomo, able to transport tourists into the brightest age of Florence: the Renaissance. Who does not know the Brunelleschi Dome, San Giovanni Baptistery and the Giotto’s Campanile? Everything is enclosed here and it would be easy to imagine the city as it was in ancient times, with maids walking in the main square and horses carrying coaches. Nowadays, roads are busy with street artists. Rustic Tuscan bakeries give way to fashion shops; just stop for a few minutes in the middle of Piazza della Repubblica to enjoy the colors and sweet melody of the carousel that will bring back great memories from anyone’s childhood.
