We live upstairs on our two weeks stay so it has been a natural place to dine a couple of times. A friendly atmosphere, nice traditional food. Definitely more meat than a fish place like Florence all together.

Inexpensive, delicious and high quality food! Definitely a little gem of Florence. A must try, love the cosy rustic feel to the place as well. Very intimate but friendly at the same time.

In a country of such great food, this place was fine, but not amazing. We enjoyed the wild boar tagliatelle. The famous Florentine ribollito, a winter soup, was a bit bland, but that may just be how it is. I only had it at this one restaurant. It was unfortunate that the chestnut pudding was a "no" per the waiter.... More

Osteria delle Belle Donne is located on the Via delle Belle Donne in the city center is a small but lively osteria with a generous hand printed menu, funky seating, decor ranging from furniture to food, and a smiling attentive staff. I especially liked the simple dishes of antipasti. Make a reservation. The place is small. But go because it... More

The food is really good, fresh and local, and the service is great as well. Its a tiny little secret in Florence. Only one small remark, the chairs are Miniature as well....

It was our last night in Florence and we stumbled across this small beautiful restaurant. The service was very friendly, the food was amazing. We all had different courses and no one was disappointed. The red wine recommend by the waiter was a perfect accompaniment to the food. Not normally dessert persons, we ended up taking 2 desserts for sharing-... More

Tried this restaurant after a long day sight seeing. A nice mix of locals and tourists, very friendly staff, good menu with traditional tuscan offerings and very nice food. Would definitely recommend. Whilst there, a really, really old Italian chap wandered in. He sat down and the waitress helped him settle in and placed a plate of gnocci and drink... More

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
