Venice is not always an easy place to dine. The fare in general is tuned to the tourist trade. Fine tuned to the tourist trade. That is, what you expect is often very good, but it is what you would expect. Gam Gam is a very pleasant surprise. The menu has the expected kosher favorites (kasha, borscht, kugel, pickled and... I am always on the look out for great Kosher food when I travel, and was absolutely not disappointed. The gefilte fish was delicious, and there was a wide selection of israeli style vegetables and falafel. The environment is simple and perfect for this restaurant, really relaxing. Its in a great location on the north side of the city, in... More

Our first time Italian kosher in Italy. Very happy with the dishes (Salmon and ragu pasta). A number of Israeli and ashkenazi dishes are also on the menu (and seemed a bit overpriced). Didn't try them, since that's what we have at home. Friendly service. Will come again.

Really nice having a place to get Kosher food in Venice, and good Kosher food. It's more of a quick meal type place, but that's okay. Food was very good, nice varied menu, people were super friendly and provided good service, and the location is great - can eat inside or out, right on the canal, and it's in a... More

Located on the edge of the Jewish Quarter in Venice, Gam Gam was a delightful experience yesterday evening for four of us including one friends who is a vegetarian and had got tired of pizza/pasta/grilled vegetables. We tried over 20 different dishes and the quality and taste was even better than any of us expected. Even their top of the... More

I've wanted to try Gam Gam for over a year, but we're always in Venice on a Saturday. This is the Jewish sabbath, so Gam Gam is closed on Saturdays. We went to Venice yesterday- a Monday, and went in for lunch as soon as it opened, at noon. I LOVED everything. We tried many things- starting with the antipasto... More

We really enjoyed this place. Slightly cramped seating but a friendly atmosphere and attentive waiters. The food was great. Beginning with the mixed starters and falafel, served alongside some of the nicest bread I've ever eaten, we were almost satisfied before the main courses arrived. Wife had gefilte fish and I had shwarma with shared sides of latkes and fried... More

After touring the Ghetto we had to make a reservation for later that afternoon which was honored when we returned. Excellent Latkes, good matza ball soup. My wife really enjoyed her salmon pasta and my schnitzel was good. Saw some other dishes I would like of tried for sure. I would recommend.

This place is a must in Venice. Whilst it's neither a large nor flashy restaurant, it is a family style restaurant, that serves delicious, traditional Jewish food. I look forward to visiting this place every time I'm in Venice and look forward to leaving with a take home container of their hummus!

Thank Holly S

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
