It is a great location and we felt exploited as a result. I suppose we should have known better as the passing traffic must keep this place going. My partner has the pizza and the quality was poor. I had the chicken shower and it was poor quality. The coffees were luke warm. We were glad to sit down and... More

This has got to be one of the finest cafe locations in the world! The iced coffee was absolutely out of this world and the waiter service was 1st class. If you need to ask the price of the coffee you probably can't afford it. On the corner of St Marks square and the Grand Canal, it is a beautiful... More

Came here just so we could soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the great view. The service was good but the coffee wasn't great. The ice cream was good too but not good enough for the high prices. Nothing special unfortunately.

On Sunday 6th November we walked all around Venice and decided to have a sit down and have a long awaited coffee. St Marks Square was flooded and in the shade so we sat at Gelateria Watching the world go by or should i say Float by, it had rained all day Saturday and it was high tide and the... More

Al Todaro's terrace is one of the best placed locations to enjoy for it's great view of the grand canal. Great coffee and superfriendly service. Keep in mind though that you also pay for the location: a caffè latte costs €8,9 and a caffè capuccion con panna €12,90 on the terrace, but prices are clearly and correctly stated everywhere. As... At the Grand Canal entrance to St. Mark's Square, there are several open-air restaurants/cafes. We picked, Gelateria Al Todaro, just off to the side because of its better view of the Grand Canal. We enjoyed tall glasses of wheat beer and a delicious pizza. It rated an A+ for people watching and enjoying the ever changing scenery of the Grand... More

This place is all about location. Don't go there to eat but sip an express so or else instead. It is not cheap but there is a high premium for sitting in the sun overlooking the Gran Canale hoping to see George Clooney hop in a boat for the Cipriani Hotel...

We had drinks here on a recent visit to Venice - my sister and I had fresh orange juice, and my brother-in-law had a beer - served with a carafe of water, ice, and a bowl of crisps. What more can you ask for - sitting in St Mark's Square, watching the world go by? Obviously, the drinks are expensive,... More

Beautiful views, directly at San Marco Piazza. Great for people watching. Very nice service. But they were very busy and we had to wait awhile for our coffee. Very, very expensive. Paid $12 for a milk coffee - I guess the views made up for it!

Large outdoor terrace. A good spot to have an overpriced drink while watching the crowds slowly amble by.

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
