...this place is essentially venetian...mysterious and charming. We found it quite by accident, as happens on visits to Venice, and for lunch, we dined on cicchetti - basically Italian Tapas - accompanied by some fine local red wine. The interior somehow wouldn't look out of place in a Harry Potter movie - and very atmospheric. The staff were charming and... More

After spending the morning walking around Venice on a guided tour, we needed a rest and food. We decided to move away from St Marks Square and the very touristy bars and restaurants. We stumbled upon this little gem. We were luckily enough to sit outside in a small type of alleyway. The food was great, so was the wine... More

Stumbled upon this fantastic little Osteria on Monday 19th Sept and called in there for 3 nights, the very best Cicchetti that we found, great wine nice atmosphere and people who helped a novice without making him feel an idiot! Thank you. Search out from the dross thats out there plus a nice bit of Jazz.

Non-touristy bacari that serves cicchetti and house wines. Inexpensive, casual, friendly atmosphere in an out of the way area.

Traditional Venetian food. Very limited menu with what was in season. Very rich food. We were looking for the traditional experience but being vegetarian there was only one dish on the menu that it could eat.

We went in here because the menu was hand written and there was a sign that said "no we do not serve pizza". Sold. We sat at one of four outdoor tables on a pretty quiet street. All our dishes were great, including the most amazing tiramisu! Waiter and wine also great!

Just at the side of the Rialto Bridge is this Italian menu Tapas bar. The food was excellent for a light lunch. The choice of wine was outstanding with most glasses costing 3€. Ambiance was very relaxing. Overall a quaint little cafe.

Has lunch in this restaurant. I had a plate of Spaghetti Bolognaise and my wife had the Calamari and salad. Both delightfully prepared and lovely to eat. They also serve Tapas and other dishes. Great selection of wines and the house wine is as good as any. Lots of atmosphere in historical terms and the news clippings and photos all... More

Heard it would be a great place to eat but couldn't tell why after trying it. Menu is limited (4 starters, 10 mains) and nothing we had was delicious. Don't think I'd spend time going here again. The word average would be suitable.

Great selection of freshly made cichetti and regional wines. Busy and used by locals would recommend this.

Staying in San Polo

Neighbourhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighbourhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.
