Lovely location- off the beaten track. Very fresh, beautifully prepared and slightly contemporized Italian cuisine. Lovely good humored service, whilst always maintaining an elegant professionalism. Repeat visits during my working trip to Venice- it became my local and reliable dining room away from home.

I loved this meal! The liver was cooked perfectly. Not to everyone's taste but it was great! My friend had seafood of some kind and was very happy with it. Staff was attentive and very friendly.

Our hotel recommended this restaurant. Great food, very traditional. Not a lot of choices for picky eaters though. The waiters were fantastic. ...very funny and helpful.

We stopped by for a light lunch and had a few appetizers - the fritto mixto (fish, shellfish and jullienne of vegetables was one of the best I have had.

Stumbled across this little trattoria one lunchtime, when our first choice was closed and it was en route to our second. Hunger encouraged us to drop in. We were given a warm welcome and the clientele in the small dining room was a mix of regulars and tourists. Perfect lunchtime portions of pasta and meat. The liver was the best... More

Four of us had a good meal but something did not quite work. Booked in advance and all fine as table ready at 8pm. The waiter was pleasant but way too busy and everything a touch slow. A range of pasta dishes were good - portions not large (which can be good). House white wine good. Main courses were inventive... More

We were pleasently surprised by this out of the way restaurant. Food was fantastic. We ordered the seafood pasta (that day's special) and the papardelle with boar ragu. The pinot grigio too, althought certainly not an expensive bottle, was excellent. Service was very attentive. I only have positives to say about this place.

Thanks to reviews here, we ambled through the back streets in Castello to find Jonny's welcoming and unassuming corner light in the fog. We were greeted by a young and friendly waiter. The food was delicious and unpretentious with a highlight being baked monkfish in a white bean puree and dashed of crushed hazelnuts and a dusting of dried and... More

Spent two weeks travelling across Italy and this was by far the best restaurant me and my friend visited on the trip. Found it on trip advisor and although we spent a little more than we anticipated the food was definitely worth it. We shared the mussels and clams to start which was good cause it was a large portion... More

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
