We were recommended this by our hotel and so glad about it as we had fabulous food. Francesco was so helpful - excellent wine knowledge and took time to recommend wines for my husband that were delicious. His squid in ink on a bad of...More

Tucked away from the main street down an alley beside the church. Warm friendly service (Francesco, who went to so much trouble to explain regional wines and also the food). Great food. We had the tuna tartare, the squid, the cod. A good choice of...More

Osteria al Cantinon was delightful...and delicious. Quietly tucked away behind the Church of St. Maddalena, it is a top choice for homemade excellence. The black pasta with prawns and saffron cream sauce is to die for! Make a reservation and plan for an exquisite dinner...More

We were surprised at the indifference of the staff and lack of any ambience here. However, it’s the food that’s the focus so: the orecchietti was al dente with a tasty speck sauce enjoyed by one of our party but not the other. The lamb...More

Off of Santa Nova and tucked away off a side canal behind a church, this place didn’t disappoint. We didn’t have a reservation but outside seating was offered and perfect. Scallops, linguine with clams, tuna pasta, and great house white wine. Priced right and very...More

This restaurant is a must to visit. We had 6 nights in Venice and two of these spent at Al Cantinon. Beautiful wine, gorgeous food ( I had fish both times) and lovely staff. Also in a lovely spot on a small canal - you...More

We walked in without a reservation and were given a very private and nice table for 4. The salads, pastas, and fish were superb - speck is a favored garnish, but it went very well with bronzino and in the salad. Our waitress was delightful...More

The restaurant was busy when we arrived without a reservation, but we were told a table would be available shortly and we were seated less than 10 minutes later. As far as we could tell the only vegetarian dish on the menu was the risotto,...More

Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district)
with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many
transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying
areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand
for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal
bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution,
2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli
Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby

Turn left when you're just out of the train station. Take the main road (lista di spagna - strada nova) and keep going for around 12 minutes. Turn right just before the third bridge you encounter. That's campo della maddalena
