We were quite excited to find this place as others have said, it is tucked away. We were hoping for good family cooked food but it was just awful. The whole place, including cutlery, glasses and crockery is very dirty. Cooked food was inedible. We paid quickly and left feeling very hard done by.

I feel sorry that, as the only customer, I bothered the waitress. She would so much rather had an empty restaurant. I thought it was me, but it wasn't. As some more customers came in she was not smiling, not looking at them or made any effort to make customers feel welcome. Ate the chicken file and a salad with... More

We were attending the opera at Musica Palazzo in the evening and wanted to find a restaurant close by. This restaurant was tucked away down a side street and a great find. This appears to be a family run restaurant that had decent food and reasonable prices. We were the first to arrive at 630 pm when it opened, but... More

as soon as we entered we kinda regreted it. the place is dusty and stucked with old souvenirs. the menu doesn't offers variety (for vegetarians there are only sides). the plates are held tiny ;) as a foodie i wouldn't recommend it.

This is not your standard place to eat: it is tucked out of the way but still offers reasonable food. Very much a family type restaurant, with service hit or miss depending on ongoing business. But the food was home cooked and good, and the prices were very reasonable.

The four of us were wandering around on our last day in Venice, looking for some non-tourist-oriented place to eat. We stumbled onto this eatery and immediately felt the difference in vibes. The place was filled with workers and gondoliers. We watched in amazement at the camaraderie and grappa-with-coffees-after-lunch events! The food was no different in taste and variety. A... More

Great food at very reasonable price. It was a nice surprise to find this place. Not a tourist trap. Locals eat there so that is the best sign of quality and great food. Litre of local excellent wine was just 10 euros. Most places charge almost that much for one glass. We went two days in a row. Highly recommend... More

Cucina da Mario is the typical venetian osteria. Familiar management since 60 years, great food (daily fresh, as there is not any freezer) in a very relaxed atmosphere. Live music every friday night.P.S. Typical Venetian Osteria means that you CAN'T find old bread, neither old olive oil to fry food. Of course NO food older than one day. Infact we're proud of the food we provide, but if you've got any issue with your meal, feel free to tell us. Cheers!

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
