This restaurant is in Cannaregio, which is on the other side of Venice from San Marco. It is a little far to go from San Marco but if you are staying in Cannaregio this is an excellent choice for dinner. It is small so make...More

The first thing we noticed was that most of the guests spoke Italian with an Venetian accent - seems to have been a good sign - because the food was very good and honest.

We went late one evening and aat outside. A giant Parma ham starter arrived for one of our party more than anyone could ever eat! Pasta was very well cooked but the portions were again large. The scallops tasted nice but were over cooked and...More

Food was really good here and good value for money. I would recommend booking as fills up, even on week nights.

Trattoria da GiGio seems very much like a local place. Our Air BnB hostess was kind enough to make reservations for us, but it didn't seem overly crowded so it's possible that you could get a table without one. We had scallops and a local...More

Had the 16€ set menu, very good value. Nice pasta to start, fairly generous portion. Pork chop to follow with decent sized mixed salad (not just a garnish). Topped it off with their home made tiramisu, which good (not part of the set menu). Service...More

Good home made meal, we ordered very simple dishes but everything was well prepared and very tasty and fresh. We emptied the plates. That along with the good and efficient service, makes this restaurant a most recommended place for dinner.

Locals eat here. The plates are huge, & excellent! You won't find such great food for such good price anywhere else in Venice! Helpful & nice staff as well

Full of locals and other Italians, was very busy every night as we were staying close by and they were booked out a few times. Staff very pleasant, serving some fine Venetian specialities.

Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district)
with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many
transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying
areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand
for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal
bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution,
2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli
Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby

I wasn't sure what the answer to this was. Go with Ken's! Regards, Clare.
Can I make an advance reservation online? If so, how? (Or, must I wait until I'm in Venice and call for a reservation?)

I'm not entirely sure if you can book online as I don't think they have a website. When we visited in December, we called and booked in at the restaurant a couple of days before we went. I highly recommend booking in... More

Not far from the train station in Venice. Very close to the Grand Canal. Excellent dinner here in June 2010.
