this was our first meal in Venice so weren't sure what to expect, but after having eaten in a few other places, I don't think this is worth a recommendation. food and service are just okay, but the value is poor. we had a much better dinner, drinks included, at another restaurant for exactly the same price

The cooking is perfect, the waiters are great, the owner loves his restaurant. A place to go in Venice, with nice antique weapons collection !! Love the risotto al radicchio !

We had dinner here the first night on honeymoon 20 years ago, so when we were back in Venice we decided to eat here again. We had lunch sitting by the canal and watching the gondolas go by, a perfect location! The staff were attentive and knowledgeable, and I'm glad to say the food was still excellent. We both had... We ate dinner twice. You can sit outside and watch the gondolieri go by and get a free concert. Both times I had the fritto misto(listed as mistura on the carta). The first time it was the best version of this dish I have ever had with shrimp, calamari, sardines, etc. The second time it was a little undercooked. My wife appreciated the pasta with... More

We found this little jewel of a restaurant at our last night in Venice. We sat outside on the patio and watched the last of the gondola's cruise by as sunset arrived. Brilliant! Had the baked sea bass with roasted potatoes....loved it. My wife loved her dish too. Make sure you go inside and look at the weaponry displ8 that... More

The location of this restaurant is the draw, directly next to the canal with gondolas passing it looks ideal for a venetian meal. The food is average at best, if you wander a few streets back you will find better food at more reasonable prices. I would give it a miss.

Travelling to Venice with friends for whom this was their first visit, my wife's only specific wish on this trip, was that we dine at Ristorante da 'Raffaele' once again, It enjoys the most delightful setting alongside the canal, Rio dell' Albero, where the gondolas are constantly passing the short distance to and from the Grand Canal, Lunch on the... Location is clearly the draw for this restaurant. We sat at a table for two outside for lunch. The food however was poor, we shared a plate for two of spaghetti vongole (spaghetti, clams, white wine). The portion was small, the clams had not been soaked and where gritty and it was cooked in to much olive oil. The quality... More

Pasted this place serveral times but closed during the day ( could be time of year March), so decided to try for dinner , brilliant spot right by the canal, but in summer think the mozzies would drive you crazy sitting outside - anyway we would not go back - service was poor , we put that down to the... This was our first night in Venice and by the time we had got in from the airport and checked in at our hotel, it was about 8.30pm. This was the first place we found with a table to spare. We started with Bellini each to get us in the mood and then we had gamberetti con polenta and capresé... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
