The food was great, pasta was really nice and the staff were attentive and friendly. The location was quiet hard to find.

I visited this excellent restaurant last March, and since then I've been on a quest to find out what "Barababao" means. There is an ample quantity of original artwork throughout this quaint and comfortable establishment depicting a somewhat demonic, green-skinned creature who loves wine, food, and mischief--things you will find in abundance at this very reasonably-priced eatery. The wine list... More

Aimed at speed, no experience of hospitality. Quality of food is below average. Antipaste di Verdure with peas out of a tin and haricots vert that are overcooked. Grilled scampis were burnt and contained the flavours of other products being prepared on the same grill. Disappointing. There are plenty of better alternatives in the neighbourhood

This Osterio was a breathe of fresh air on a busy day in Venice. The meal was delicious , flavoursome and fresh. The wait staff were very professional and helpful given our poor Italian language. Wine choices were broad and of good quality. We would highly recommend this restaurant as an option for lunch or dinner. It was a very... More

This restaurant was just around the corner from our B&B and looked appealing. First time we just had pizza and a salad, and the pizza was the best we'd had so far and the salad was crisp and plentiful...also the best Aperol spritzer in all of Italy....seriously... served with an olive and orange slice on a stick. We went back... More

Just spent a few days in Venice and came across this gem of a restaurant on our first night. We loved it so much we went back on our last night too! The waiters were friendly, cheerful and professional and the food was wonderful authentic Italian cuisine. There was an extensive menu with something to suit all tastes including children... More

The food was really good and tasty. Also the seafood was fresh. But the waitress has difficulties to explain what is in the food in English. Overall we had a good time and it wasn't price at all.

Food was very good and fresh. We happened upon the restaurant while wandering the narrow streets of Venice looking for a place to eat. Good wine, fresh and good food, good prices.

It was the first restaurant in our trip in Venice and the restaurant being near our flat we decided not to get lost further. We order according the menu which state the pasta are a first plate and we took a fish for the second plate. Everything was very nice and delicious but when we ordered the fish we did... More

Best meal in venice for a few reasons The wine can be bought by the carafe at amazing value, especially when you compare any restaurant near the river. The starter we had was for two a seafood mixture, that I had individually elsewhere in venice but this was three time better. The main was a steak and bacon on a... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
