Recommended by our local Venetian host, it's difficult to imagine more fun on your first night out on a foreign city. Lucio's is about the entertainment as much as the fabulous seafood. We were there on a Saturday where Lucio's excellent tenor was joined by cousins Roberto and Enzo to put the 'Happy' into the repertoire. And the 50€ set... More

Stopped here on the way between the Arsenale and Castello, friendly service and tasty food. We enjoyed gnocchetti ragu and soaghetti e vongole, followed by mixed fish and beef steak with grilled veg, nice house red carafe. Stop there if you are in the area.

After a long day walking all over the biennale and Venice, we were recommended to eat good seafood in this place. We got one starter (to share) and a first meal (a dish each). The starter was pretty average and dry. The first meal (seafood risotto) wasn't too bad, it took ages to arrive (it's written on the menu it... More

We had 7 people and was seated in the back room. We were having lots of fun until a neighboring table told me to shut up. I was in shock ...we were on vacation and having fun. then when we asked for cheese to put on our meal (after they removed it from the table) the waiter asked us "what... More

We were recommended this restaurant by a local person. The food is very good, authentic and the staff were friendly enough. However when it started getting a bit busier we were forgotten a bit as the staff tried to find tables for arriving customers. I think they were happy when we left as they could offer another table.

If you're looking for a Michelin two star, this isn't it. In fact, it's exactly what it appears to be: A local restaurant with simple, but delicious, foods; not-at-all bad cheap house wines; great pizza, great pasta, and -- from my experience (mostly at Mike's Pastry in Boston's North End) -- the world's best cannolis, prepared 100% in house. The... More

Had a late dinner here. It was recommended to have good fish dishes. The pasta pomodoro was good but secondi, the fish plate was rather bad. Some langostinis and cuttle fish all deep fried with a white sauce - not sure what it was. The Patrone was behind a mic and was singing some Italian songs when we entered, far... More

A good true Venitian restaurant in a true Venitian street. They cook local food at reasonable price, especially noodles in cuttlefish ink and grilled prawns. If lucky, the owner, a true Venitian, shall sing local songs; no tourist cheat.

Had a meal here and liked it so much we went back a few times. The service isn't speedy but it means you can soak up the atmosphere. The nights we visited there were the same locals I there and at lunch a locals birthday meal. The food was was freshly prepared, good quality and tasty. The waiting service were... More

The restaurant came highly recommend so much so we booked the night before to avoid disappointment. On arrival our table was ready and we were quickly seated. Unfortunately it then took 30 mins for the waiter to order our drinks he was glum and unattentive this continued throughout the night. The atmosphere is great if you can live with poor... More

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
