We came here because it was recommended by locals we talked to while we were staying in the neighborhood. We didn’t make a reservation and we got a seat at about 7:30 on a Sunday. I think we got lucky though, because the place is very small, quite popular and was packed the entire time we were there. We shared... More

Off the beaten path from the grand canal, we had a pleasant dinner here: Grilled tuna on risotto, and pasta with meat sauce. The service was welcoming, attentive and comfortable. Wine prices were very reasonable. While the food was tasty, it was not memorable, but definitely an improvement from our experience the night before at La Gazzettino. This seemed to... More

Went to this place on the recommendation of the hotel concierge- I got to say, not impressed- not family friendly, and pricey!!! Servings weren't that great - but the quality was very good, but not really a good reflection of the price. All in all, if you're after a family meal, or are very hungry, not the place, good food... Very considerate helpful staff, I tried the seppia for the first time ever and really disliked it!! Not due to cooking or presentation but that it tastes of mushrooms which I loathe. The staff immediately offered to change it for me to the sea bream and then did not charge me for this dish which was excellent. Modern cooking and... More

Like all visitors to a new place, trying to pick and decide on the place to have your first meal is always a challenge. To be honest we went looking at other places recommended but didn't get a good vibe, so on wandering back to our hotel came across this restaurant. There was a warm and genuine welcome, followed by... More

We ate here one evening and the food was lovely. The scallop and sea food starter was particularly nice. The service was great - really friendly and attentive. The best part of the meal. You can sit outside and people watch too which is nice. The price was fair and similar to most restaurants in the area.

The concierge of our hotel recommended this place as an authentic Venetian restaurant with reasonable price. He told us that he would make reservations but we were walking past during late afternoon and we made a reservation ourselves for later that night. The woman asked if it was recommended and we said the name of our hotel. When we came... More

I recently dined here and was very pleased with my meal, it's out of the way and is not a tourist hotspot so we got a taste of the real Venice. The staff were pleasant and accommodating to us. On arrival we were seated and were offered a free drink each which was a lovely touch. For starter I had... More

Poor & rude service (they quite obviously have a major problem with non Italians as we personally witnessed with the treatment of other British/American customers all evening) meager tasteless portions both with anti pasti & main dishes. After being recommended this place I've quite frankly had better meals in a fast food/tourist restaurant.....will never go back!

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
