My wife and I are big on eating at places locals would eat! This place was incredible, I made a reservation at 10 in the morning over the phone. I'm glad that I did because it seems you only get to eat at good places with a reservation! We walked in and it was a cute little restaurant! We were... More

True Italian food! Really fantastic food, good service, and friendly people! Really good food is not easy to find in Venice. You have to normally get completely out of the tourist areas but not in this case. Alberto is a close walk to all the main points in the city and one of the few places recommended by the locals.... We stayed for a week in the apartment above and loved the smells wafting from the kitchen, simple Venetian food , attentive service, felt we had found a bit of a gem! Not rocket science but well priced and not touristy. Our waitress was delightful and tolerant of our fussy sons food requests!

A very grumpy barman informed us at 11:57 we would have to come back in 10 minutes before we could sit down which put us off. We did come back though as we didn't want a touristy lunch and get ripped off. We sat down and the lovely waitress took our orders and spoke excellent English. We had great value... More

This bustling osteria offered typical Venetian fare in what seemed like an authentic, nontouristy atmosphere. We went for lunch and tables were filled with Venetians of all sorts, regulars and one-timers coming in for both the regular daily menu and the specials. Service was pleasant enough. The food, while not exciting was decent.

But not us -- terrible spaghetti, cold uninteresting, arrabiata sauce, and gummy gnocchi. Punk salad and underdone grilled vegetables. The eggplant parmigiana was decent but the eggplant were underdone. Wait staff, that night, 2 women, were lovely, efficient. We tried this place twice while on our month-long stay in Venice. Basta!

Our son was hungry so we came into Alberto Osteria. Bottle of Soave along with 2 pasta and a squid went down well The female server was very good and caring about us. The place by 1pm seemed to fill up quickly. All in all very good. However not a place to dine if on a budget

A Nice and cosy Restaurant. The Staff is very polite and helpfull. Unfirtunately the Food is nothing Special. Neither Risotto nor Pasta are anykind of Special. Not bad at all, but nothing more than average.

Had really good mixed starters. We liked everything. The mail course wss really good too - spaghetti busara and pasta with ricotta cheese, plus tiramisu and souffle which was great. And wine - would reccommend Vallpolicella Zenato (red). Loved it so much that we went to the store and tried to buy a bottle to take back home!

Old decor, but the food is tasty and menu offers a great choice of traditional Italian food. The atmosphere is cosy and romantic. The service is attentive despite only 2 waitresses for whole restaurant. I noticed the chef also helped to clear tables so next course could be brought without delay. This is a busy restaurant so book if there... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
