We ate here on the last evening of our trip. This a a family run establishment in the residential area of Sant Elena. Reservations are recommended as it is very popular and has only about twelve tables. It was fully booked on the evening we visited. Our starters comprised grilled sardines and spaghetti with clams. The two mains were calamari and meat... More

This is one of the only real restaurants in the area and if you are staying nearby and its raining you dont have much choice. Busy little place with limited tables mainly for couples. I suggest to reserve if you intend going here especially if you are more than 2. Food was pretty average am afraid for the price (2... More

We found this place as we were staying in the local Hotel Sant Elena. Very well-cooked food with a good priced and tasty range of wines (I normally take the vino di casa and it was good). Cheap, for Venice, but the service, food and people were great. If you can, pop around and book a table, as it does... More

Fabulous meal - we had sarde in saor and warm octopus and potato salad to start (delicious), followed by the evening special of osso bucco, which was spectacular. A side of chicory, dessert of liquorizia panna cotta plus coffee and grappa. And the house red was one of the nicest we have had in Venice. A great meal, excellent service... More

After arriving in Venice for NYE we found this place near to our hotel and we hoped to have a quick lunch. They had nothing hot as they were preparing for their fully booked evening. So we settled for cold meatballs and sardines along with nice crunchy bread. The meatballs were large and had a nice tomato sauce and my... More

We arrived in Venice after a very long trip on Boxing Day. We were very hungry and nowhere appeared open. We came across this restaurant and even though they were about to close, they accommodated us and were very friendly. The food is very tasty and portions very generous. Thanks so much.

Best meal of our lives... we had melt in the mouth prawns and tender steak followed by tiramisu... fresh, high quality ingredients at a more than reasonable price. Family business with lovely service. It was so good it would be worth paying double!! We fly home tomorrow and are devastated we can't make lunch before we go!! Get out of... More

The restaurant can rather be called small so it is not the worst idea to make a reservation before. Food is mostly mediterranean, the menu features primarily fish dishes which can be recomended. Beside this there are also meat and fries to be found. Our waiter was very dedicated to give us a great experience, he even spoke to us... More

Food was wonderful, pasta perfectly al dente with adequate flavourful sauce. Enormous gamberoni! Wait staff extremely friendly to us obvious tourists. Wonderful experience.

I absolutely loved my meal at the Osteria da Pampo. I had the grilled calamari with vegetables. The dessert, tiramisu, was great and the portion was generous. The service was good. I suggest you call to book a table before going because most tables are reserved.

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
