Mom is in the kitchen and cooking up a storm. While this is not "haute cusine" that's not the point. It is very good and interesting home cooking. I mean home cooking is a positive way. Welcoming and fun.

One thing se learned about Venice during our 5-day vacation, it is actually hard to find a good dining when there is plenty of them constructed for tourism. Luckily one night we end up finding this pearl, first we noticed it was crowded most by locals. Food was awesome. Different from the other italian food we had, skillful use of... More

Make sure you make a reservation because even though there are a few rooms in this restaurant it fills up. Mostly with locals. The menu is in Italian but they can give you a translation helper. The food was fantastic and so was the wine they suggested. This place is on a canal and a bit off the tourist beaten... More

I'll just say this: la zucca is un-frickin'-believably awesome. The waiters are very nice and attentive. Everything we had was amazing but pasta al forno with melted smoked scamorza and aubergines were out of this world. You should definitely come here. Definitely.

Be sure to book in advance. It is very popular with locals and visitors alike. One of the best restaurants in Venice. Very pretty location. Outside is the best place to dine, but any table will be good. You will not be disappointed.

Discovered La Zucca as it was located next to Ponte del Megio. We walked in without a reservation and were offered a table outside (much preferred). The food was great for reasonable value. The staff went out their way to translate the menu in English. We stayed in Venice for 3 days and went there twice. Highly recommended for fine... More

Another wonderful discovery using Trip Advisor and the Daily telegraph Travel section. This is a lovely restaurant situated on one of the many canals of Venice. Booking is essential as fully booked when we dined and they have two sittings per night. Although mainly vegetarian they do serve meat for some of the main courses. We had a three course... More

This is a popular restaurant and needs to be booked in advance. It's a quaint little place with tables inside and out. The menu is extensive and in Italian but the lovely staff were more than happy to help and advise. I am vegan and wasn't sure what was appropriate to eat but the waitress suggested the 'vegetarian plate' which... More

Research had shown this was rated the best vegetarian/vegan restaurant in Venice. We were advised to book beforehand by our hotel which we were glad of as there was a continual stream of people being turned away due to all tables being taken. The food for the meat eaters was excellant as was the vegan meal. The staff advised on... More

Great little find, pretty much always fully booked. A quaint little throw back into yester year. Service was excellent as were the staff, and had a full blow out meal (some cash left at the end of the holiday!). Very good for the vegan co-traveller and meat eater (finding the combo in venice is quite hard if you dont want... More

Staying in San Polo

Neighbourhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighbourhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.
