Not exactly an insider tip anymore, but still a restaurant one would like to keep to oneself! We went for dinner at 8pm on a Friday when it was still pretty quiet, but the place filled up quickly and we realized we were the only...non-Italians. Being in a place that locals frequent is always a great feeling. But our excitement did not stop there; we ordered antipasti, mains and desserts, and lots of house wine. The cuisine of Friuli Venezia Giulia is slightly different from the normal Italian fare, but well worth a try. We loved it. The service is prompt and friendly. If we get a chance we will be back!More

Nice Restaurant 10 min outside the main centre / old town. Facing the theatre. At 10 pm they still served me well! Delicious gnocchi con gulash, nice atmosphere, nice and friendly service and lower prices then in the old town. We’re traveling alone; Got tips...for the day. Came second day again, because it’s delicious and cosy. Very fair pricing!More

I have been there yesterday with my family. I was speechless how good the food was. We ate appetizer a main dish and a desert. Unbelievable how good the taste of everything was. For people who want to experience the Italian cuisine beside pizza it...is a must.More

My boyfriend and I came here the night before a trip, and it was so good we just had to come back when we returned to Trieste the week after! He ordered the gnocchi with goulash, while I ordered the paella (plate of the day)....The portions are significant considering the medium price point, and the owner is a very nice lady. Would definitely recommend this place to any tourist who wants a taste of Triestian cuisine at an accessible price!More

Across the street from Teatro Rosetti, this lovely trattoria / hostaria features delicious food with the Friuli flair. The owner is super, the service is super and the ambiance is super. We highly recommend it.

I always say that the silver lining to being Celiac is that it brings us to the coolest places—this being one of them. We enjoyed the lovely service by the couple running the restaurant. The food? Incredible. The handwritten daily menu is accessible for gluten...free, but you’d never really know unless you asked, which in a way makes this a lot less of a touristy allergen landmark (had trouble with this in Rome) and more of an authentic Friulian restaurant. Pumpkin gnocchi senza glutine with butter? Absolutely knock-you-on-your-ass divine. This place is amazing.More

We identified this restaurant prior to our trip to Trieste as the closest to our apartment, so we had a good idea what to expect. It did not disappoint! We arrived around 9pm on a Wednesday evening without a reservation, but a table was quickly...cleared for us and we were made very welcome. We enjoyed an excellent and unhurried dinner, for a very reasonable price. The 4 of us shared 2 platters of regional cured meats and cheeses as a starter, followed by 4 mains and a desert - all for around €100 including drinks and a couple of coffees. We each chose a different main course, and all were pronounced delicious. I am happy to recommend this restaurant for its food, value and hospitality. Thanks for a great introduction to Trieste.More

We were staying at a local B&B and our host highly recommended this place. Wow, we were thankful she did! It is a little off the beaten path but well worth walking a few more blocks for some amazing food. We started with a Frico...and polenta. We had never tasted something so cheesy and savory - thoroughly enjoying each bit. We then shared a beef and gnocchi dish - again words can’t describe. The house wine was delicious The owners are active in the business with the wife running the front end and the husband cooking amazing food. They have a small hand written menu which we would have hoped to try everything. Much of it looked fresh with a farm to table vibe. Hope you are able to find it as enjoyable as we did.More

We stumbled across this restaurant since it was close to the appartment where we were situated. We didn't expect much, but the food was really good. First thing we noticed was the small menu(I always find that a good sign) and good smell. We ordered...different meals and everything was really good. I would personally recommend frico. The service though could be a little better. The woman who served us looked rather uninterested.More

Based on the reviews, we hoped for a broader choice of food with an Austrian flavour, while on that day, most of them were rather generally-Italian. Still, there were some Friulan dishes that we were able to try and they were all very well prepared...and tasty. An Austrian trace could certainly be felt in the interior decoration and probably the mood, which is very calm (the place being full of guests, most of them young) even for Northern Italy; this was quite different from what we experienced in Italy until then, so it was very interesting. The lady serving us was very polite; she did her best in English and we did our best in Italian and German, and everything went very well.More
