The seafood soup was fantastic, seafood ragu OK, main course whole fish overcooked and dry, and grilled calamari mediocre at best. I don't get the rave reviews. I booked after reading them and left totally disappointed.

We will never forget the antipasti and the fish soup! Outstanding!! Also loved the unique charm of the place, which has a lot to do with the father-and-son-team who have been running the place for 40 years. Thanks for a lovely evening!

Frankly I don't get the rating they got: the food is decent but nothing to remember in fact I found it too salty and poor in quantity. Surely the place is not bad, the prices are lower than most other seafood restaurants and the service...is nice but there are far better seafood restaurant in Trieste.More

One of the first people to enter this popular local restaurant for Saturday lunch, I mistakenly showed too much enthusiasm for sardines. I ordered my main dish of grilled sardines, but the waiter/owner was rushed and mistook my enthusiasm and railroaded me into also having...a sardine taster to start. Honestly I did not like the starter because I don’t like sardines in a hundred ways. The grilled sardines were delicious but by that time I didn’t want to look at another sardine. I may never eat another’s sardine again.More

Cons: Tacky decor, off the beaten path, simply prepared fish lacked any flavor for the most part, small portions and no veggies offered. Pros: Fish appeared the be fresh, owner's "schtick" may be the best attribute. Bottom Line: You will probably be disappointed based on...the positive reviews... so many better places to eat in Trieste.More

Great little fish osteria away from the touristic area. You have to search for it as it is somewhat hidden. Friendly owner. The mixed fish appetizers are very tastefull. As mains we had skewers of grilled calamari and sardines and grilled tuna. All was very...fresh and nicely seasoned. In combination with polenta, mixed salad and white wine a perfect lunch! Very popular so recommend to make reservation in advance.More

Just 5 minutes from the San Giusto cathedral, in a quiet residential street, Osteria di Mare alla Voliga is a real hidden gem. Here we found fabulously fresh seafood prepared in creative ways at very reasonable prices. As wonderful as the food was the friendly...and thoughtful owner Gianni, who offered us many insights into the mysterious city that is Trieste. We can't recommend it highly enough!More

We had lunch. It was full. We were the only tourists. Well priced portions of sea food. Welcoming atmosphere. Worth searching out. The fish soup is a must.
