Nice popular place. No pretensions but very funny, especially if you know a little bit of Modena which we have been here each year and enjoy every minute.

Recommended by a NYC friend lately from Modena, we arrived as advised sharply at noon; the place was already half full. We were seated at a table for four, with two strangers, who were locals and clearly there several times a week. If anyone tells you that Ermes is anything but the nicest guy in town, never believe them again.... More

I wouldn't advice tourists to go eat here! Or if you really want to go you better have no expectation. You have to like meat and be ready to eat whatever they have available. Eat everything because you will pay the same kind of fix price. It is a real tavern where the owner is the boss.

Like eating in your grandparents' . Delightful atmosphere , real Italian experience , fussy and happy customers and great owners . There is no menu , only what they have cooked for the day , surprise in a good way .

Excellent hand made food , good wine , best local kitchen food you can find in modena , surely worth every penny(which is not very expensive)... Long lines outside but its all about tradition after all isn't it? Enjoy and be sure to visit this wonderful family!

At Ermes you will get the most authentic Modena cuisine you can get outside of a private house. The menu rotates on a daily basis, and all the dishes are freshly made by the owner's wife. Beware of the long line outside and the grumpy service. The food (and the affordable prices) justify them.

Walking towards the Duomo we asked someone for a recommendation and they said that they eat at Ermes at least twice a month. A good start. When we arrived, Ermes welcomed us from behind the bar while his wife chatted to our baby. Having moved from Italy we had forgotten what it was like to be welcomed to a meal... More

Go there early because the lines of the people waiting to be fed by this unique guy Ermes (actually his wife who plays in the kitchen) are looooong.... I really appreciate the fact that the locals love this place, that Ermes is very humorous and makes you feel at home (well, not immediately :) ) and the food is divine.... More

Went here with a friend during a road trip / food tour of Italy. The staff spoke no English but they had a piece of paper with the selection of food written down. Despite not speaking Italian the staff were ever so friendly and I would love to go back there. We had 3 courses with a Bottle of wine... More
