We ate at La Francescana at Maria Luigia and we’re regaled with stories by the wife and co-owner. Laura is a delight. The food is exceptional but it’s so much more than a dining experience. Think art, stories, senses, fun and enjoy!

We planned our trip six months ago when we secured our reservation. We visited many cities with the endpoint being Modena and the restaurant. We have been to other Michelin stars and can honestly say this was one of the most disappointing meals we have...had the displeasure of enduring. The service was impersonal and highly flawed. Our water glasses were not filled, table was not cleared, explanations were bland and we felt like we were being served by the military. The sommelier did a decent job trying to pair the wines, but the task may have proven too much for the bizarre concoctions we were served on the 12 course tasting menu for 500 EU per person. Of course, there is some artistry to these types of menus. However, our table can genuinely say we liked 3 of the 11 we tasted. We actually asked for the check at the 11th after waiting a significant time between courses while dirty glasses remained on our table. The food seemed like they were trying too hard to impress while falling short with their audience. I’ve never walked out of a tasting menu in my life, let alone a 3 star Michelin rating. Our long anticipated experience was heartbreaking to say the least. Massimo should go back to being a chef, not an actor. Sadly, do not waste your money or your time here.More

Definitely once in a life time experience, from the arrival to the departure and everything in between! We chose the a la cart menu as we really wanted to have the Five ages parmesan cheese and we didn’t regret any choice! Its a culinary journey!

Now it is official that this place is out of the Top 50 best restaurants in the world and as we have been there in june we can only confirm the fall as we have never experienced the rise to stardom of this place. For...sure the Marketing skills of MB are excellent as he keeps the waiting lists long and the suspense is high when you arrive. 1. The recpetion is professional without soul or passion as you are guided to your place and introduced to the masters creations . It feels like you are visiting the Louvre or another famous place in the world. 2. The Food is inspired by other chefs or lets say an hommage as he would call it.This was at least the case for our menu. It starts with a set of three hors d oeuvre one of them looking like chips with CIAO written on it, very impressive for the amateur. I will not indulge in more details as the rest is colorful composition with reference to japanese food for example . The menu is a brillant food decoration with some parts being acctually good. However it is difficult to enjoy due to the exaggeration of the Marketing stories behind each dish told by the server in a passionless way. 3. The wine pairing is shallow and incompetent…is there a real sommelier? The best part is when at the end MB shows up probably coming from another of his ventures.as never was in the kitchen ( so the waiter says) The idea is that you should congratulate him abd take a photo for instagramm. Well we misunderstood the target is to be NO1 in social media not in the gourmet heavenMore

Okay, THIS was the famous Francescana? Quite a disappointment! After all you‘ve heard, you‘re giddy with expectation, and, frankly, you shouldn‘t… So why exactly? You‘re being held waiting in the smoldering heat outside the closed door til at 8 PM sharp they graciously decide to...let you partake from the AC inside. As for a welcome-greeting, 3(!) different minions check if your police records, pardon, your reservation papers prove valid. Then, another minion (nobody introduces themselves) guides you to your table in a somewhat bleak room. After all your initial inconvenience, aperitivo is NOT on the house, and stiffly so. But you‘re here for the famed Chef and his culinary creativity, right? Well, here comes the 12 course tasting menu (290 €, plus 190 € accompanying wines, plus plus…), and it’s not innovative and creative, but a copy-cooking of ideas of befriended chefs, called „With a little help from my friends“. Right. Does Bottura still cook and be creative himself? The very thing you travelled here for? Nope. It‘s all, well - sorry you nameless helpers: minions. The Master turns up for about 15 minutes, passing from table to table, bragging about how many reservations he has in his waiting list, about having cooked for the UN - you know the spiel… Baseline: a well oiled PR machine (with a little help of his wife…), that somewhere on its lucrative way lost its soul. To avoid a disappointment like ours - don’t go there, or you‘re destined to find out for yourself.More

After visiting Osteria Francescana, I came to the conclusion that you can’t have a “best restaurant of the world” title, since there are so many objective variants, likes and dislikes regarding personal taste. Having said that, this place is definitely one of the best!!! To...be fair I can’t say if it’s better or worst from other 3 Michelin stars restaurants, but I can say that the “zuppa fredda di carbonara” is the most delicious, mouthwatering taste I have ever tried… a taste I will never forget!!! Along with other remarkable dishes and some that were “just” very good, the new menu “with a little help from my friends” delivers an excellent gastronomical experience, well worth the fame of the chef. Friendly but professional staff made you feel more than welcome. The only underwhelming thing for me was the wine pairing. I would give it 3 out of five if I could rate it separately. I look forward to have the chance of visiting this place again and taste Massimo Bottura genius one more time! PS: unfortunately the chef himself was not available to meet him and express our compliments & to be honest when you visit a place like this you expect this to be part of the experience… a small personal let down.More

This is probably the most polarizing place i have ever been and I have waited 6 weeks prior to my review. The chef pretends to be an artist and this is the whole concept of naming the plates and decorating them. It is not about...culinary highlights , world class service and wine tasting. A very good review on tripadvisoor from september 2020 resumes it wellMore

There is little to add on the 12 course menu: you can have personal preferences on all dishes but the final result is always beyond imagination and full of surprises. Take into account 3.5/4 hours for the the menu. A separate comment to the staff:...impeccable and very kind, but not some sort of fake kindness. Everybody seemed genuine, which we appreciated and made us feel home despite the restaurant's extremely high level which can be a bit intimidating. Thanks to them as well!More

Osteria Francescana is the greatest restaurant I’ve ever eaten at. Each plate was presented perfectly and the flavors were amazing. Service impeccable. Some of the highlights of the meal were the mortadella ravioli filled with scallops, the eggplant in a cream reduction sauce, the salad...topped with caviar, and the banana pudding with pecorino gelato topped with a sweet cone filled with caviar. I know it sounds weird, but it’s perfect. If you have the opportunity to dine here just once in your life you will not regret it.More

It was my first time at a Michelin restaurant and quite an experience! An place of 3 rooms - two of them with 4 tables and one with 5. All 13 tables were occupied with all sort of ages (not only older people - which...was a delight). The place is of exquisite taste and elegant details (such as Gucci items and crystal glasses with the chef’s signature) You can hypothetically order either á la carte or the 12 course set menu. It was very clear that the staff gentility urged us to order the set menu which we did (I suppose it was easier for the kitchen) The food is a an artful approach to food , with inventive textures and combinations. Of course the 290€/ person (alcohol extra) is not about the food cost . It’s about a gastronomic show and a lifetime experience! Mr Bottura came for a quick chat to each table separately at the end, which was a pleasant surprise.More
