Monte Caruso is a traditional Italian restaurant hidden away down a small flight of steps. The seating is fairly intimate, so a good place for a romantic meal. We enjoyed a hearty Italian Vegetable Soup followed by Turkey Breast cooked in Brandy and slices of Veal in a Truffle Cream Sauce. The potatoes and vegetables were an additional charge. For... More

So we looked internet and chose Monte Caruso near our hotel Mesanata Palaca ( good )and went to have some food. We chose recommended four different... More

This restaurant was close to our hotel and what a find! Family owned and run with amazing food. The soup, pastas, and the veal meatballs are amazing!

Very nice mood, the cousin was OK, but the profiterole was delicious! The price was very reasonable, 40 euros per person (with a bottle of wine). All in all, it was worth it.

I don't usually review restaurants, but I felt compelled to review Monte Caruso because it was the best meal we had in Italy. Fantastic food, top-knotch service. Next time we come to Rome we will be back.

Loved it all. Atmosphere, food and service. Best olive oil I've ever had. I wish I had discovered it before my last night in Rome.

Monte Caruso was good but not up to the standard promised by previous reviews on Trip Advisor. Also on a Friday evening it was not very full which may be a telltale sign. Service was pretty good until it took about 20 minutes for our desert (profiteroles) to come: they were delicious. Main courses were fine but not memorable

A hidden gem of a restaurant in the heart of Rome. Down a small flight of steps and you are greeted by warm and friendly staff. The decor is charming and intimate. My husband and I booked a table through "the fork". We were shown to our table and asked if we would like a complimentary glass of prosecco. We... More

Great food and great experience. Very pleasant restaurant which offers excellent food. Mama Rosa, Papa Domenico and their son Emanuele really take care of their guests and make your dinner something to remember. Thank you so much. Jolanta

I have visited this restaurant 2 times (Dec 2015 & Mayeur 2016). I have had excellent meals both times. Couples or small business groups. Good food, service. Will go again when in Rome.

Staying in Esquilino

Neighbourhood Profile
Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighbourhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighbourhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic centre. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
