They gave us the worst pasta we ever seen, it was reheated, probably from lunch (we were there for dinner). We could not eat it, we told them and they gave us a stupid excuse. However, they tried to put that pasta in the bill, which we didn't accept. The rest of the dishes were very poor and overpriced.

To be honest, I cannot tell you why we were treated differently than the rest of the customers at the restaurant maybe it was because the wait staff just is not friendly to tourist or because we weren't white but there was definitely a difference in service. We were charged for still water that was tap water and had a... More

The menu is limited to a small number of pasta dishes. We tried three and all were disappointing in both flavour and the temperature at which they were served. The portions were, in this case, thankfully small but at 15 euro were not cheap. The desserts were equally disappointing. Mille feuille was a few pieces of puff pastry and some... More

Tucked away but worth a walk from the Ancient Rome area. Nice food and good service. Was quiet and pleasant.

We stayed at the Palazzo al Velabro hotel which is just around the corner from this restaurant and so we ate here twice. This place is terrific and has great pasta. Everything we had was top-notch. But...you have to try the Caprese with real Buffalo Mozzarella as an app. The texture of the cheese is unbelievable and something that is... More

Was told to go here as the movie stars used to go here. There were pictures of movie stars who had been here years ago on the walls. It may have once been a "cool" place but is no longer. Wait staff not so good, food not to our liking, we didn't stay for desert.

We ate lunch here on our day of arrival. We ordered cod two different ways and neither was very impressive. Then one evening we were thinking since it was close too our flat and we were exhausted from site seeing that we would give it another try. Well, it was ha, like day and night. The service was excellent the... More

After tours of the Sistine Chapel or dealing with the crowds taking selfies in the Colosseum, this was a perfect antidote for a quiet evening. There is a good wine list and lots of choices among the pastas. My fettuccine with black truffles was really good. Because it's close to our hotel, we will probably spend our last night coming... We were staying nearby and looking for a restaurant after a long day sight seeing. Amazing food and wine. Not the cheapest but the portions were large the biggest mozzarella balls I have seen. Near the Forum we visited in Autumn so booking was ok.

We arrived there on our hotel's recommendation after driving to Rome and trekking all day without food. The place is loosely styled about the In Rome movie with pictures of Loren, Hudson (and also Jimi Hendrix) tastefully decorating the walls. Staff is lovely, table settings are beautiful, food is good (but slightly on the pricey side), fresh and organic as... More

Staying in Aventine

Neighbourhood Profile
Aventine
Contrary to the chaos of the city, the Aventine is Rome’s oasis. A neighbourhood made up of a patchwork of ancient churches, hidden gardens, private homes and embassies, peace and quiet is top priority and the vibe definitely friends and family. Take a walk around the Aventine and you’ll find a treasure hunt of surprises like the clever little keyhole at the Knights of Malta entrance (the only place you’ll find a line) along with Parco Savello (Giardino degli Aranci) next to the ancient Santa Sabina church. Keep your eyes on the 1960s architecture, several modern buildings are built atop Rome’s original 4th century BC wall.
