Had dinner here last night as just around the corner from my hotel. Food was average and well service was friendly enough I couldn't help but be jealous that the two blonde Polish girls who later sat down beside this solo Canadian femake wre treated to complementary sparkling wine and were given the wi fi password without even asking for... Before jazz concert at Auditorium Parco della Musica, we went for Apertivo at ReD. The cost for drink and small plate of food you fill at buffet is €10, so good price. But found food very bland and over cooked. Have had great Apertivo in Rome, just not here. But very convenient location to concert venue. And definitely the price... More

My friends and I happened upon this place by accident. We had been walking all day and just needed a place to grab a bite before returning to our hotel. We were not disappointed. The food was good and the owner/manager very engaging. we all had different plates and each was great. We enjoyed the place so much we returned... More

I ate the antipasta at ReD least 4 times and it was good each time, espicially for the price. Usually, in the late afternoon, I enjoy a cold Peroni and a nice anti pasta. It just seems to round out the afternoon. I had several Anti pasta plates from various places around Rome and found ReD to be the best... More

After eating at Red on the first night of our stay in Rome, we were really surprised to read such poor reviews. Red hadn't been recommended, but was simply one of the closest restaurants to our B&B (Daysleeper, just around the corner) and having been up since 2am to travel to Rome, we wanted to eat somewhere nearby. Admittedly, it... More

I went because the owner of my B&B recommended it. Two other Americans I met said they liked it too. However, if you know what good italian food should taste like you will not like this place. I just came from Siena where I had amazing food. At Red I ordered their house risotto, which was made with short grain... More

Staff is incompetent, rude and bullying at its own customers! Things worsen when you are in a group (they panic because they are just incompetent and cannot deal with more than two clients!) I guess I do not need to add more details. My personal advice: find a valid alternative for an aperitif/dinner in the nearby before heading to Auditorium.... More

ReD is a restaurant/pizzeria which we found on the first night of our stay in Rome. It serves typical Italian cusine including pasta, pizza and seafood dishes, desserts, and has a full bar. We were looking for a pizzeria, and the receptionist at our hotel (with no English) just said Trastavere, which was a good distance away and we had... More

Staying in Esquilino

Neighbourhood Profile
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighbourhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighbourhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic centre. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
