Somewhat hidden in the quiet part of the Testaccio neighborhood, and called Marucci (presumably the owners' surname) by locals, this gem of a restaurant serves genuine Roman food at reasonable prices. The house red wine is delicious and paired well with our generous portions of gnocchi, bucatini all'amatriciana, and saltimbocca alla romana. Service was prompt and friendly, and the limoncello... My girlfriend and I stumbled in here by sheer chance when the restaurant we intended to go to was closed. It is a classic Italian restaurant serving authentic Italian cuisine, which seems to be frequented mostly by locals. Service was warm and welcoming. Our waiter recommended the day's special - home made lasagna - which was absolutely brilliant. Unbelievable flavours.... More

This humble place just across the Tiber from Trastevere is really worth the walk. Classic italian cuisine with anti pasti, pasta, seafood, meats and pizza...and then that special ingredient, that is fast becoming more and more rare wherever you travel these days. Authenticity. The food is simple, yet so full of taste. The people are local, but greet you like... More

My husband and I wanted a traditional non touristy trattoria and this place was just perfect! We were warmly welcomed and given a plate of thin and crispy bread with ricotta cheese and honey to nibble whilst we looked at the menu. The house red was good as was the chianti that we had with the main course. All of... More

This is the type of family-run restaurant that I wish I had on my doorstep. Consistently delicious, real food, charming staff, excellent value. There is not a box it doesn't tick. My wife and I visit Rome every year for a few days and Antico Forno is like going home.

Three minutes from the apartment we stayed in and a great find. Fabulous ambiance and wonderful welcome. Food was great and plentiful. We enjoyed it that much we booked again for the next night despite there being many alternatives locally.

We were recommended this place as we wanted an authentic Italian Restaurant that was not a tourist trap, and we got that and much more. Yes this is not the prettiest place, but it has a lot of character. Our hostess, which we assume were the owners, were just first rate as was the food. My kids had a Pizza... More

Neighbourhood Profile
Put the house music on replay and you have Testaccio, an ancient Roman port and former working class neighbourhood where the bass is set to high almost every night of the week. Its collection of discoteche (nightclubs), street parties, and crowded restaurants give it its well-deserved party reputation. During the daytime, Testaccio is more easy listening than club hit, the area is full of locally owned small businesses and has one of the city's larger produce markets.
