Osteria Nuvolari was recommended to us by our Vatican guide. It is located on a quiet side street near the Vatican, away from the crowds. The atmosphere was warm, friendly and welcoming. The staff were very friendly and spoke English well. The service was very good. All of the food that we ordered, including several types of pasta dishes, meatballs,... More

The same was said about my order of lamb meatballs with artichoke cream so I ordered a side order of pasta. This restaurant serves really nice food - I'm gonna miss it! The fried artichoke is particularly memorable! Great food, not expensive. Highly recommend it if you're in the Vatican area.

My husband and I went here for dinner one of our two nights in Rome. It was absolute perfection!!! Our server spoke English, which was a plus. He even offered to explain the specials in English when he saw me looking up at words in my dictionary. I try to speak Italian as much as possible while here, but he... More

We arrived at our appartment around 8.30 pm, and decided to find a place to eat around 9.00pm. It was a Monday evening and raining but we were in a area which supposedly had many restaurants. We started looking for one but everything was closed or closing. Then just by accident we found Nuvolari. When we entered there was only... More

I've eaten here a few times and I've come to depend on it when people are visiting me. The menu changes and remains interesting, with the chef trying new things while always serving up the Roman traditional dishes perfectly. The waitstaff are very friendly and make great suggestions about the specials and a nice wine to pair. If you're over... More

Read reviews on TripAdvisor, excellent, highly recommended for its outstanding local Roman dishes and the worlds, friendliest and helpful waiter, who, with fairly good English explained the dishes and recommended wines, including the local house wine, which we opted for. Food arrived just at he right moments, no rush, leaving good quality time, to eat chat and drink without feeling... More

I was looking for somewhere to have lunch near the Vatican that wasn't a tourst trap and stumbled across this place. The crostini with mozzarella, anchovies and sun dried tomatoes was very good as was the pasta amatriciana. The staff was friendly and attentive. If you are near the Vatican, stay off the main street and come here. I wiuld... More

I've been a regular at Nuvolari for about two years. It is just a block off the Borgo Pio, which is filled with tourist traps. Nuvolari, on the other hand, caters mostly to locals and it feels very much like a neighborhood restaurant. The service is consistently terrific and the staff is very accommodating when you need something. They have... More

Staying in Vatican / Borgo

Neighbourhood Profile
Vatican / Borgo
Frocked priests, colorful Swiss Guards, insistent souvenir shop owners, flag-waving tour guides, and pilgrims from around the world. This is the Vatican and Borgo, Rome's most recognized neighbourhood which acts as Vatican City's front yard. Aside from the souvenir boutiques and a few food spots, the only business conducted here is papal. In the daytime, the tiny medieval sector bustles with holy activity, as visitors vie for elbow room, or stand in line for a visit. Once the sun sets, the neighbourhood is transformed into a quiet and picturesque hamlet.
