Was recommended this place by a Rome local so thought it must be pretty special! Lined up for about 30 minutes and sat at a cosy place inside. Some food menus had sold out, so we ordered the chicken with roast potatoes and a meat sauce pasta. The chicken came out with no potatoes and the pasta with some tasteless... More

Visited here 9years ago and the food and atmosphere was so good I insisted on coming here again. Last time I was lucky and didn't have to queue, this time I turned up at 7.45pm and was about 10th in the queue. As soon as the clock struck 8 we were in and had a table. The shredded beef with... Because of David Downie's book on Rome, I've been wanting to try this place for years. Well, I finally had my chance at lunch today. We sat down and the waitress took our order: carciofo romano, puntarelle, rigatoni cacio e pepe, and rigatoni amatriciana. I barely had time to take the fork and knife out of the paper napkin when... We waited in line because we were told it had amazing food. Yes really we did. Well there was nothing special about the pasta I had, the same as everywhere else in Rome, just good pasta. The dish I wanted was not available despite being one of the first in. The Osso bucco was good but I've eaten just as... More

Small, varm but I would not say cosy. We had to wait half on hour outside to get in... but it was worth it. A classic italian food joint with history. Great coniglo, gnocchi and bombolotti pasta. Go there!

I have frequented Da Augusto many times since a Roman friend of mine recommended it. It's like family dining- inexpensive, simple and authentic. The choices can be limited and there is no guarantee you'll get your first choices (sold out) so ask the waitress there what is available before you set your heart on a dish. Don't expect glamor in... More

While shopping in Trastevere a local shop keeper recommended this restaurant for a reasonable lunch. He was so right. It was jammed with locals but we finally got a table and had a great but inexpensive meal.

I've lived in Trastevere for the last 6 months and eat out every night. I finally went to this place thinking I was in for a real treat. What a shock! The food was served in probably 45 seconds after ordering. Dried up breast of chicken, two luke warm slices of pork and for my dinner, the "sausage plate", one... More

I was keen to try stracciatella (a broth with cheese and eggs) on this visit, as I hadn't tried an authentic one for years (I make it at home with the water from boiling asparagus, rather than a proper broth), and I discovered accidentally from my Lonely Planet guide that this restaurant had it on the menu, The place was... Our Italian friend suggested to go there for real Italian food and feeling. We really loved the simple yet authentic pasta we got! And the white wine although pretty strong was still really great. Besides that - AMAZING option to get between Italians and just feel like part of Italy as locals know it!! ❤️

Staying in Trastevere

Neighbourhood Profile
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.
